I see now . Thanks Wayne

Scanner or camera ? have you this on all your negative ?

Best

Henry

If not camera, and it is probably not, I figure it must be related to development, e.g. improper agitation, as it is not pervasive throughout all photos/negatives. It may be related to my habit of stand developing. I shot a roll of HP5 this morning and have decided to develop it in HC-110....And not through use of stand developing technique. I should know shortly.

Thank you. That is true. However, I, too, wonder about the banding. One thing I have noticed is that it seems a phenomenon exclusive to my Barnack cameras. While very low exposure does result in high graininess when Ms- or virtually any of my non-Leica cameras- are used, the noticeable banding is not there. It may be a ridiculous speculation, but I sometimes wonder if modern emulsions reveal a characteristic, associated with Barnack camera shutter curtain action, not apparent when ancient emulsions were in use.

Are you sure it's not your scanner? Usually when I try to pull too much from an underexposed neg, I get the same type of banding.

So many great photos in the last couple days, it's difficult to keep up with the thread! Bravo everyone!!

I agree, and you're also contributing to those great photos. Love your style and look with that film.

Well done, everybody!

Excellent set - just love the tones, colours and textures of the second image.

Well, with this kind of encouragement, I can feel my resistance to venturing into PRINTING waning. I mean, I recently developed my first 4X5 negative; I do not know how much longer I can hold out. :)

A slightly lengthy post.  Earlier this week I posted on the 'R Forum' that I was considering adding a Leica SLR to my armoury by buying an R-E or R5 plus possibly a 35-70mm f3.5 or 60mm f2.8.  Then I realised I had a pristine Olympus OM2n sitting on the shelf.  On Friday I put a roll of Acros100 through it (see earlier post for first results - post #36215) and they, plus the ones below leave me in something of a quandary.  What will I gain from the Leica glass over and above that from the Zuiko 50mm f1.8? Probably better bokeh.  More 'character'?  'Glow'?  How does one assign value to such undefinable terms?  For the price of just the R5 I could buy enough colour film to keep me going for years!   Add in the price of a Leica R lens and I could buy just about all Zuiko OM lens on the the market!

Ah, the quandary, LOL.

I can assure you, it is logical thinking you are going through right now. And I say that as I did the very same thing myself.

My use of M cameras is lessening, I find the view the enjoyment and the accuracy of the SLR too strong, over the M. My old Leicaflex SL started all this, but to be fair I have had SLR's since the 60's.

With a Euro trip pending, I decided to think about a couple of Contax G cameras, and the 21/28/45 lenses. Small, light, decent quality. My wife gave me that stern look, "stick with Leica". "Yes Dear".

Then I chanced on a couple of OM's, and I had had an OM1 and OM2 many many years ago. I ended up buying an OM3, and and OM4Ti, both nice, as well as a darn nice 50/1.4, and 35/2. The OM3 went back, it had a blob of fungus in/on the prism, no affect on the image of course, but never going to get better. I sent it back. The 50/14, ditto. That left me with the OM4Ti, and the 35/2, and again I got the "Stick with Leica" lecture.

I sold the OM4Ti, and managed to return the 35/2. Now domestic harmony was restored, and I sourced not one, but two R6 cameras, and a nice 50/2 three cam to go with them and the 35/2 I already had. I also have a 24mm coming, to round out the package that will provide colour neg and B&W for the trip.

The difference in weight/size? Slight, and not enough to worry me.

The difference in cost? Yep, sure is, but the cost of peace at home is worth it.

Difference in quality? Dunno, won't go there but I suspect the "glow" or perceived quality is just that. I'd have been happy with the Oly lenses, and am sure you will, and I know your wallet will be too.
