Earlier this year, UK Film Lab decamped to Canada, leaving some of us UK film-users wondering who to trust our (colour) films to.  This month I have sent a 120 Portra 160 to Ilford (dev only), a 35mm Portra 160 to Canada (dev & scan), a roll of 120 Velvia 100 to Palm Lab and a 35mm Portra 400 to MeinFilm Lab in Germany (dev & scan).  I posted a couple of the Ilford Portra 160 6x6cm results here last week and below are two from MeinFilm Lab (downloaded from their site a few minutes ago.  Will definitely use them again.  MP, 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH.  More to follow.

Wow, the quality in this thread on the last couple of pages is gorgeous! Be it Neil's stunning images from Rajasthan, Dirk's Rolleiflex pictures, Adam's masterly done medium format work or the contributions of many others. It seems, 35mm is more and more repressed but hopefully not fully forgotten. Analog film seems to be more than vivid. Thank you all for the great joy you are bringing!

Well, the two below and those in #23837 are most definitely 35mm!   :)  MP, Elmarit-M ASPH 28mm, Portra 400.

Well, some of you (you know who you are) have a lot to answer for.  Have just ordered a "Hasselblad 500C + 80mm f2.8 Planar + A12 magazine.  Full working order & guaranteed, serviced."  Arrives tomorrow morning :)

Back in the day I lusted after such a beast but could never afford one and had to make do with a second-hand Pentacon 6.  Scroll forward many years and the desire for 6x6cm again reared its head but due mainly to concerns about coping with the weight of a Hasselblad, I opted for a lightweight Rolleicord Vb - a delightful and very capable camera.  This kept Hasselblad thoughts at bay - until I started following this thread.  Also earlier this year I found I could just about cope with occasional short forays with 1.5kg of Fuji GW690II, so hopefully concerns about the weight of 500C with f2.8 Planar will be unfounded.  I'll find out this weekend.  A 70th birthday present to myself   :)

Keith - Happy birthday.  You deserve it!  Enjoy!

Hello Again,

Can anyone explain to me why the picture came closed instead of being open as it was when I "clicked" it into my Post?

Best Regards,

Michael

Thank you, Michael.  I appreciate your feedback.

Sadly, I cannot answer your question and have wondered the same thing myself from time to time.

With a Hasselblad you can create art, Keith. You can do that with any camera of course, but creating art with a V series is very satisfying. I've had mine for quite a few years, bought new for professional use and with the intention of adding a digital back. That idea was binned shortly after purchase and my 503cw lay dormant for several years, I had no use for it but could not bring myself to sell it. When I eventually returned to using it, I rediscovered part of myself as a photographer. I've used it exclusively to create a singular body of work, images of Hebridean beaches that I know would not have evolved in the way it has done without the Hasselblad.

The work is going to be published and my Hasselblad is closer to me as a photographer than any camera I currently have or have ever used. Enjoy yours.

Whilst waiting the arrival of the 500C, here are two more from the roll of Portra 400 put through my MP. Both with the 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH. First one in very bright conditions, the second (in Malmesbury Abbey) hand-held at a ridiculously long shutter-speed.

A few more from late September.

A field of chamomile in North Dorset (or South Somerset).

My daughter and I went to Therfield Heath looking for the last of the Chalkhill Blues but I think she was happy just to sit and read in the warm evening sunshine.

If the grass isn't sufficiently grazed, it doesn't take long for scrub (in this case wild rose) to return.

Adam,

A very nice picture, well executed and a testament to the photographers determination (who gets up at ungodly times - again - and again ... ). However, coming back to the pic for a few times, it is much less the flags that disturb me, but the two lights in the bushes and the reflections on the left side in the background. They keep niggling me, I think because it does not look natural to me. If the environment would be that bright, methinks these two lights would be less pronounced...

Thanks very much for your thoughtful feedback, Christoph. For this shot i used a 2 stop hard ND grad filter in order to preserve detail and color in the clouds while getting good exposure of the scene under the clouds. A sort of manual HDR effect, if you will. Edited by A miller
