Somewhere in Tunisia 1980

An enchanting image—made all the more mesmerizing by the great use of the  backlighting—awakening echoes of my own backpacking days. Thank you, Phil. In times like these, a little lightness does us good… even if it comes in the form of blue-eyed, blonde Berber maidens😇

Thank you Klaus. It became a "thing" on the travels a group of us did together, to buy the local apparel. We weren't too old or stuffy for dress-ups. I still have mine, stored away somewhere - I must have a look, now that you mention it. Do you have some photos to share from your backpacking days?

Like most people who were traveling back then, I too, of course, dressed like the locals. Looking back, the poncho didn’t turn me into an Indio, and the knee-high Cretan farmer’s boots didn’t make me a Cretan either… but it was, though naive, a fascinating way to be somewhere else—and someone else—for a while. One of my “projects for older age” is to dig out the old slides and look through them for anything worthwhile. Aside from my modest photographic skills, I was also, unfortunately, a shy and timid traveler—and ended up photographing very few people, but lots of landscapes and such. Looking back, a big mistake. I´m working on it.
