But I had to admit, that I never found that any of this film simulations has something to do with the original. If I want film-look I use film. Just my thoughts. Btw: for me it still looks rather digital.

In very many cases the difference becomes immediately apparent even if you can not put the finger on what's different. Yes, I agree that there are many instances where the difference is not that marked. But most images in this very long thread clearly are taken on film.

Questions upon questions....... Guess there is no easy answer possible. You might see it if you do a direct comparison (same picture with film and digital). With a lot of work it might be possible to make a digital file look somehow look like film, but for me than it's less effort (and much more fun!) to use film. And since I have used most of the films in the film simulation thread I can tell that they had nothing in common with what I see there. But even films look totally different. Each has it's own character and is different from others. In addition the result also depends on how you expose and develop. The same film could look totally different if you overexpose and do a soft development or with an extreme push with a high contrast and underexposure. That is what this fascinating thread is about. Here you can get a idea of that great variety. It is a complex universe of it's own with endless stuff to discover. In general I got the impression that the micro-contrast of film is higher and that sometimes makes the image look sharper then digital, although the digital image probably is sharper if you zoom in. Here an comparison I did some time ago. For me the film images looked more three-dimensional than the digital ones.
