Your blur-series show that nicely. It was at least thirty years ago that I saw a series of very large square black-and-white photographs at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Bill Jacobson's photographs, very white over-exposed, grainy portraits and figure studies come closest to what I remember seeing at the museum. What struck me was that from a far distance, the photographs, which were blurry, seemed sharp to a degree, but the closer I came the more blurry they appeared. Still, at a close viewing distance, my mind continually compensated, trying to focus an image that was intentionally out of focus. Phil just mentioned Antonioni's Blow Up, which dramatizes a photographer who continually blows up a photograph, the evidence of a murder, but the more he enlarges the image, the more grainy and indistinct the image becomes, until it so so abstract it's unrecognizable. Gerhard Richter's book Unscharf features more than a dozen photographers working in blur. Edited September 15, 2023 by Ernest

I knew you would pull that rabbit out of the hat! Miles Davis improvising the score, playing in synch with the playback, which was very innovative at the time for film scores. Voila, your backup from Herbie Hancock hits "dimm's" note, too. Thanks, also, for the watercolor wink-wink, nudge-nudge for my blurriness. ADOX does love more than a dash of toxicity.

These pictures (and quite a few others) always remind me of a quote by Raymond Carver as mentioned by Massimo Vitali in “The Photographer’s Playbook”: You’ve got to work with your mistakes until they look intended. Erato Posted September 16, 2023 Share #87850 Posted September 16, 2023 (edited) Thank you so much, @christoph_d Perhaps the aging color rendering made it a spooky vibes. It looks better in back and white. An accidential scratch created a fabulous effect looks like hairline. Check this interesting photo out for further details as mentioned. Welcome, dear visitor!
