Thank you so much Henry. No, I was photographing for a book and met this girl (I can’t remember her name but from memory she’s Dutch) and others who were backpacking their way around Australia, working when they could to stretch their finances. Like you, I really like the colours here and miss Kodak’s E100VS (people used to say the VS stood for “Velvia Substitute” 😂) and the demise of so many great transparency films. Again, there is much in the colour and the gradations and tones that digital doesn’t do.

I agree with the previous discussion of this image. The high key and pronounced grain gives a special feel to this image as does the optics. I believe that, particularly on the left side of the image you can observe what large lens openings can do to the image, as I guess that the unsharp fence parts are in front of the vertical plant stems (correct me if I'm wrong Phil), but you can still clearly see the plant stems through the fence wire, the stems being only partially obscured as light from the stems is still captured "left and right" of the fence wire.

Thank you sincerely Christoph. I think there may be a bit of optical chicanery going on in this image, and you are right - some of the stems are in front of the fence, but some are behind and appear to be in front due to the optical illusion you describe. Photography has many wonderful and unique qualities, the ability to confuse and confound being prominent among them.

I agree and share the opinion, I too regret a few years in which I basically took digital photography. I never stopped using film, since 6 years ago I'm back to using 100% film for my B&W photography and working in my darkroom. Digital photography offers so much ease that it makes you lose the sense of photographic values of metering and use of light, it is a shame watch at overprocessed prints and use some software to improve the pictures! it's a pity that great papers like the fixed grade Gallery or the Oriental Seagull no longer exist. I prepare the developers myself, so I always work with "fresh" material.

I'm sorry if I don't publish some of my photos, because in my opinion, seen through a monitor, you can hardly appreciate all the nuances that a silver gelatine print offers compared to an inkjet print, scanners hardly represent a print accurately. I have seen this by visiting many exhibitions, recently I have been amazed by Emmet Gowin's prints, but seen in a book or on a monitor they are not the same.

Greetings from Barcelona

Lluis

That’s such a refreshing and considered attitude toward film photography, Louis, and thank you for sharing. Like you and many others here I am a huge fan of Emmet Gowin’s work although I’ve only been fortunate enough to have seen one or two of his actual prints.

Please do consider posting some of your pictures here, as disseminating work on forums such as this helps keep film photography alive and in front of people. And it is a very generous and supportive community here.

What a lovely X-mas decoration, full of detail, it has a 50ies feel to it.

Yes, this window has the charm of an antique jigsaw puzzle, and it has so much detail it's impossible to see the selfie. I am promising myself to go back with my Belplasca for a 3-D shot in E100.

I find myself coming back to this image - like in a dream. The muted colours fit the mood.

I was thinking much the same, Christoph. It's the Thambar-M without the Central Spot filter that renders a decidedly painted landscape quality. The palette of the ADOX Mission also echoes a painterly approach.

The color of Portra 800  is really nice in your picture ....  I like much the framing Rog 😀

Best,
Henry

I favor Portra 800 with my Tele-Rollei, so forgiving. I've been using Portra 800 with the Summaron-M 28 on my MDa, too, stopping down to f/11 or f/16. It's my blind Leica point-and-shoot.

I am was usually not a big fan of having the sprocket holes, but this one really rocks. It is really nice and give a strong feeling of having the surfer literally popping out of the frame. Really well done. More please :)

Thank you. I usually crop the sprocket holes (also because I can't fix the crooked horizon with them), but I decided they are ok for this time.

MP; Elmarit 28/2.8 Asph , KG 200 .   The 28 Asph has -as the internet wisdom and the LUF tells me-- no character whatsoever. For me it is a perfect addition to a 50mm lens  for a city stroll  anyway. Doesn't talk to much, no complaints and easy to accommodate.

Rog thanks for your answer ....  I think the portra 800 is the prettiest in color in the portra range i am a fan of all three Portras 160. 400.and 800.

If you have any others please post them 😄

We should all pray for greater manifestation of "internet wisdom." I laugh at the ridiculously low- for Leica lens- that I paid for my 28 Summicron Asp, thanks to the widely published internet opinion of the lens. I was not even aware of the 28 2.8 Elmarit Asph at the time; had I been, I probably would have gone for the smaller Elmarit.

Another lens that does not seem to get much fanfare is the fairly tiny Summarit-M 35mm 2.5. Bargain price.

Hi Ayrel,

It would be my pleasure to invite you share this photo on the following threads.

All the first frame is precious to me and it's well-worthy for sure.

It seems that your Fujinon works perfectly with your Barnack.
