I processed a roll of film last night and found this image on it that I made in October.

Remembrance Sunday once again today, Mrs O is a former Soldier and this day each year is an emotional one for her.  The image below is of the wreck of a Catalina that crashed on Barra in the Outer Hebrides in May 1944 whilst on a night flying training exercise, killing three of the nine crew aboard.  I made the image with a German camera that was designed six years after the end of World War One.

The image seemed rather poignant on this day, lest we forget.

Thanks for the great photo.

It brought to mind a book I purchased while stationed in Dunoon, Scotland, The Poems of Robert W. Sterling. Both Robert and his brother, John, were killed in the trenches, but not before Robert wrote the following lines, in the trenches, to a fallen comrade:

Oh Brother, I have sung no dirge for thee:

Nor for all time to come

Can song reveal my grief's infinity:

The menace of thy silence made me dumb.

Robert W. Sterling,

Winner of the Newdigate Prize for English Poetry

Steve, I share your feelings.

On the way to my garden, I pass these relics of WWII-they are the fundaments of a flak, blown up after the war. In three weeks, on the 4th of December, the town where I live will commemorate the bombing of the town, leaving at least 5000 dead and the town flat.

Lest we forget:

That's shocking, Klaus.
