This woman was quite camera shy, but the Mamiya's shutter is so quiet....

Overheard this old couple (61 and 63) reminiscing about the good old times before cameraphones and laughing at the idea that their great-great-great-great-great-great grandchild has recently emerged, looking uncannily like an M3 re-named M-A (to avoid confusion with those pesky digital things).  Who will outlive whom?

Seeing the news about Fuji Pro400h going the way of all flesh, I was reminded that I was out on Dartmoor about a year ago and by complete coincidence came across the South Devon Hunt, miraculously in my case with my Leicaflex SL2 loaded with Fuji Pro400h. A local lab did the worst processing job I think I've ever seen but with lots of dust and spot removal I got some super scans. The light, the film colour and the Summicron R 35mm just made some magic (to my eyes anyway!).

I had not heard about the demise of 400H. I guess we will all be Kodak shooters at some point in future. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I guess the price of 400H- as usual- is what lead to this; I noticed that during this pandemic the 400H was typically the only color film not "out of stock." I suppose folks were not buying due to high price. A couple months back I bit the bullet and bought ten rolls, thinking I might make it my main color film. I guess I can forget that idea.

This is a beautiful photo. It makes me think of Kodachrome for some reason. Not so much in the exact quality of rendering, but in that the rendering is so unique and pleasing to the eye. As with things of flesh, 400H will not be fully appreciated until it is gone.

Thanks for the photo,

Wayne

So sad to hear that Fuji abandoned the Pro 400 H. Now it becomes critical for me. Looks like there is no more 120-type color negative-film left there from Fuji. Would be OK if they still offer the Superia 400 as 120, but I guess this was abandoned years before. But Superia 400 as 120 was always rare here in Germany and hard to get. Can't chum up with the new Kodak films. Portra NC was great, but I don't like the new one's. Only comfort is that I still have 50 rolls Pro400H in store.

Here another picture made with Fuji Pro400H due to this sad reason. It also shows a bad parting: the last day open and active at Berlin Tempelhof airport, a few hours before it was shut down at the 30 October 2008.

I really like this. I just threw out what I thought was exhausted C-41 and now regret it. Looking forward to trying this with the next batch I get.

Interesting!  I currently have some C-41 chemistry that is technically exhausted according to the manufacturer's (Tetenal) data.

I'll try it with a roll of XP2 and see what happens.

En garde!

My wife "working" on some pottery-related project on our back deck.  I'm pretty sure there was some music playing and (unsurprisingly) beer involved too.

Leica IIIc, with Nikkor 3.5cm f1.8 ltm, Tri-X (expired), souped in Diafine, toned in LR.

I'd be interested in your results. I actually tried XP2, and it didn't turn out well. That's when I decided to chuck the developer. But maybe I should have done a slow develop (I "only" did 8 minutes, agitating every 30 seconds; brix for 6). Or just maybe developer's late life magic is reserved for color film.

I hope there will be a 400H II in future like it happened to acros. But that will depend on the market and if film photographies small comeback will grow or not…

There is some reason to hope for that. Fuji announced that it was having too much trouble sourcing the chemicals, rather than there being too soft a demand. Right now, the global commodities market is going bonkers in anticipation of a reinflation post-covid. So, perhaps in a couple of years, Fuji will be able to offer the 400H again.

Last of my "low tide" series (I promise). Mamiya 7 43 mm Delta 400 in T-Max

These are from Colt State Park in Rhode Island, the gifted summer estate of Samuel Colt, of the firearms family. It contains a pretty spectacular stretch along the Narragansett Bay. This is the estuary, and at low tide it empties out nearly completely, leaving behind a feast of clams for humans and seagulls.
