All your pictures from the series are fantastic! The grittiness and subdued tones of the film perfectly matching the subject. I get cold when I look at these...

When did you go?

And how long did the battery of the M7 last in these low temperatures? 😑

Hi Christoph,

I travelled to Antarctica in 2010.

The M7 batteries lasted well, all day. However, changing film wearing two pairs of gloves was an issue. The one thing I forgot, before leaving home was to tie a a short piece of wool to the bottom release catch so I could just pull it (with gloves on) to open the catch. Consequently I had to remove the gloves from one hand to get a thumbnail into the catch in the usual manner. The M8 and M9 both needed constant battery swapping through the day. Not an issue as putting the battery back into a 'warm' pocket brought it back to life for a bit more service.

Ernest,

All your photos have wonderful colors and textures (and show the magic of your incredible lens and that fabulous film), but these seem to do so especially well.

Thanks, Ken. I picked up an "Eggleston" Mamiya Press Universal with a Mamiya-Sekor 100 and shot some E100 with a 6x9 back, so I can appreciate where you are going with your Fuji GSW69iii. That E100 is astounding, so I think you are going to give your Fuji a workout.

Cheers,
Rog

Thanks, Rog. Those Mamiya and Fuji (among other makes) MF lenses are pretty amazing. There's so much to choose from. I just checked out some photos with your camera on Flickr: they're amazing!

Hi Rog, how do you find the Mamiya Press in terms of handling? Is it relatively easy to hand-hold with 100 ISO film?
