Took my newly-acquired 21-35mm Vario Elmar for a test run (R5 & Ilford HP5Plus) on the Marlborough Downs last Thursday. Brilliant sunshine but with a very strong wind blasting up the southern escarpment as I walked along the skyline.

1) Looking west along the Wansdyke.

2) Folds in the landscape.

Nice photographs. I am always captivated by these expansive landscape shots of British countryside. For some reason, they always make me wonder what could have happened on the gournds in past. Have the historical battle fields of Britain been as extensively marked and maintained as the civil and revolutionary war sites in America? I imagine, given length of history, and dearness of real estate, it would be quite a luxury on the Isles. I think of a photograph Ian posted a while back, he added that the scene was one upon which Kipling would have gazed during his life. I enjoyed that bit of extra.

Thanks,

Wayne

Wayne, the Marlborough Downs are chalk-lands and feature quite a few fortifications such as Neolithic earthworks plus burial chambers (long barrows). Prior to the valleys and lowlands being made navigable, the only way to travel was along the ridge tops, hence such long-distance routes as the Ridgeway, which dates from prehistoric times.  A fascinating area which includes the World Heritage site of the Avebury Stone Circle.  All of which is a few minutes drive away...  :)

Taken shortly after the other two photos as I started to make my way back towards the start point. This one is looking east along the edge of the Downs, where they run down into Pewsey Vale.

The things we force on our kids.

Local high school band performing- I am sure it was forced/coerced participation- at a local grocery store, to kick-off the Christmas shopping season.

Neil - Congrats on getting max depth of field on this one.  It helps hold the interest in the photo quite nicely.

I echo all the comments on this one from today, Keith.  Excellent photography.

These photos (with the second being my favorite as it reminds me of Batman) apply the exception to the general rule that histograms mean something.    I'll bet the histogram looks totally out of whack; yet the exposure is completely spot on with the mood that you are creating.

Inspired by Adam's past photo of his Linhof shooting through chain-link fence.

For GLbealnz: Yup, that is a Minox shooting a Linhof. :)
