"The reason I now and then leave the 'I like film' topic is that there is one annoying technical thing in it that other topics do not suffer from. This is the fact that when people quote a foregoing post to comment it positively (mostly), the image comes along again, not seldom w whole series is related once, twice or thrice. I do not see that happen in other topics, not that often at least. Do you think you could do something about that? It makes this topic very long, voluminous and time-consuming to see what's new."

There are many things that I don't like about the "quote" and (especially) "multi quote" features.  Unless I'm in a rush, I generally try to delete the photos in my multi quote response.  But this has a negative in that the thread moves so fast that the original poster (whose post is being commented on) may not remember which photo is being commented on, as some people do not provide a lot of detail with their post to provide a clear and lasting description of the photo that the poster will remember days or weeks into the future when they see their post "quoted."

 

A different point, but fwiw my biggest complaint with the multi quote is that the reply window is so tiny and it is very difficult to navigate.  

 

I also think it would help A LOT to have a quick reply window under each post that will allow people to provide a comment after each post rather than have their reply be inserted as a new post at the end.  For those who play catch up and want to provide comments on multiple posts that have been made over a period of time, the person will "lose his place" in the thread if he makes a single "quote."  So the multi quote is very handy.  But this leads to very large posts that are very difficult to manage especially given the very small window allotted to multi quote posts.  

 

So having the ability to make a quick reply under each post would solve Otto's issue b/c people wouldn't need to do multi quotes and would solve my issue of being able to play catch up without having a nervous breakdown.  

 

This is really pounding sand and the best place for comments in the "About the Forum" section of the forum.

I think it might be where we direct link to images, or share them using the forum upload facility.

If someone quotes a direct link, as Adam did above (thanks! love the colour in the brine), it republishes the image.

If someone quotes an uploaded picture, it strips out the image itself?

 

I'd be OK to try and use the forum software to avoid this issue.

I think I've found my spot. I might try it again when there's a bit of shadow. I love playing architectural lines with the SWC, thank god for the built-in spirit level.

Yes, that spirit bubble is THE key to the whole camera.  

The photo looks like a hand drawn rendering of a prototype university campus.  Really cool.

In the beginning I was a bit annoyed to see the photos in quoted posts appear again and again, then I started to see the value of knowing what the members are commenting about. I'm neutral about this matter, both ways are good for me.

I believe it has to do with whether a photo is "attached" to a post or linked to from an external source, like Flickr. In the latter case the photos will be reproduced in a quote, in the former not.

 

I'm also quite neutral on this, and though I do find extremely long multiquotes time-consuming, I'm sometimes guilty of this too, sheepish smile. 

 

That said, if there is something in particular about a photo that a forum member wants to point to or if one photo in a series of images is particularly appreciated, then it is helpful if that photo is included in the quote (provided that is possible of course) since the thread moves so fast.

I try to avoid reposting images when I comment on them, and I do find it distracting to see strings of images reposted - often on the same page and sometimes with a general comment like "Great shots!" . Then again, as others have said, if there's something specific that is being talked about, and reposting will aid in this, then obviously it is good to have the picture right there. It's probably just the reposting of multiple images that may be is a bit distracting, or sometimes when an image is reposted in the very next post (although this is harder to control as you might write something pertinent to the image, and two or three other people may post before you do - so in that case, it IS helpful to view the image again).

I generally try to delete the photos in my multi quote response.

Philip or Phil have exactly the same idea as me. I agree. Sometimes one picture or some pictures please and are nice

Il merits and it's normal to post again . Some of them are now in the selection in "favorite images" of LF.

 

So these pictures can be attached in your comment ... because these images are localized many pages above

and it helps to see them again with your comments .

 

When I comment I always have in mind that some young photographers are looking your pictures and as I said

to Otto they can help them .

 

This thread is the best in LF for "film" and I learn a lot of ideas , when I watch your interesting comments.

We still learn after 40 years of photography and some contributors make me discover film brands I don't

know , as Christoph with his "Color implosion" , Adam with "Cinestill" , Klaus with TMAX or Philip with Velvia or.... 

 

Again thanks to All of you , because without you , this "film" thread doesn't and cannot exist.
