First frame from Friday's outing with my Hasselblad 500C & 'new' Zeiss Tessar 160mm CB (+ yellow filter). The view is looking up at Hackpen Hill on the Marlborough Downs - the Ridgeway ancient long-distance path runs along the skyline.  Tri-X & Rodinal 1:50.

Ref #35442, this one is the view from the top of Hackpen Hill looking back down at the approach road and countryside to the west.  Same details re camera, lens & film.

Softness , softness and softness when watching your landscapes pictures Keith :)

Thank you .  Nice black and grey shades

Thank you

Hi folks, this will probably be the last post from me for some time. Unfortunately we where hit hard by heavy rain on last thursday, resulting in the flooding of our basement. The last days we where busy getting the water out, carrying a big amount of garbage and many other things out and to other places in our house. in the next weeks we will have to get the basement dry again and then the renovation will take place. In the meantime I will visit this thread to find some joy and distraction. Here is one last shot from two weeks ago, when our little world was without trouble:

James , sorry for your flooding , don't worry ! we understand this situation.

I have also a great problem with flooding by a perforated copper pipe,

installed by my plumber after 15 years , in our house

Demolition of the wall to find the leak and change the pipe

3 weeks of work

Very nice red. James I purchased 10 rolls of Cinestill 50D by Macodirect.de

After you house works , I'll try to develop and post some pictures for you,

keep in touch  :)

Best

Henry

Henry, I am going to kick it up a notch and go from "rural" to true hillbilly.

When I decided to resurrect my Canon F1 (original) earlier this month, I found an undeveloped roll of Kodak 400 color film in the bag in which I had stored the F1. It must have been the last roll I put through the camera......about 24 years ago. I developed it earlier this week. I believe I was using an FL mount 50mm 1.2 Canon lens.

A warm evening in Southern Illinois. We were visiting a very dear friend. The photo seems to be of the same quality as my memory of the moment......Sort of faded and unclear.

Wayne , great memories for this picture

The time seems stop at this moment

No color is fine. Finally the proof that film can have great conservation during 24 years Wow !

Thank you for posting

This is the Pommern, a four-masted windjammer/barque, which lies in Mariehamn on Åland. I shot this in 2014 when I was there to give a presentation about EUNAVFOR and the anti-piracy efforts around the Horn of Africa in which I've been a bit involved. As far as I can remember I just set the camera to B, placed it on a stone wall and held the shutter open a few seconds. I like that the stars came out so clearly.

This is an astoundingly excellent photograph. Incredible perspective compression to the perfect extent. Just brilliant.

Thank you!

Cheers

J :)

This is very beautiful!

Thank you both very much for the comments.  It seems to have been worthwhile dragging myself out of bed unusually early in order to try and make the best of the early morning sunshine.  :)

Apropos of nothing previous...

I just noticed that the picture I posted above (Hills Near Florence) looks noticeably darker when view in this thread than it does directly from the file on my computer and directly to my screen. Specifically, the detail in the shadows (foliage at the bottom of the picture) is much darker through the forum than through my software.

Has anyone else noticed a similar effect?

Michel, a little darker in foreground , but the different plans behind give a nice perspective

and nice contrast for the picture. May be it's the end of afternoon ?

Finally I think it'll be nicer in print  :)

Thanks Henry,

I notice that through the forum the foreground is about Zone II but through my photo editor the foreground is about Zone III with much better separation/contrast and detail.

For me the key to this picture (yes, made in late afternoon), is the differentiation of the sky and the detail in the land/shadows.

And yes, a print will be in the plans. (Things are improving in that regard).

Thank you both. Yes it does look a bit like IR doesn't it? When I first saw the scan I thought I had accidentally scanned it as a positive or something had gone wrong. The ship is illuminated by very large lamps and I suspect the long exposure time made the highlights blow out. An interesting thing is the halos around the lamps at lower left. I have seen this with Double-X but not much with Tri-X. Perhaps it is because this was a roll of the old version of Tri-X which expired in March 2002. Anyway, looks pretty cool, I think.

As for workflow, well I just do what I normally do, which I outlined in this really quite boring article, which is basically just try various sliders in Adobe Camera Raw until I get something I like. I used to post-process my b&w scans in Photoshop but now do all post-processing regardless of emulsion in ACR.

Great one, Frank.

Awesome, Christoph.

As I said on FB, I think this is one of your best, and as I reflect further, I think it is #1.

Congrats, Phil.  Well deserved!

Amazing, Philip.  Perhaps you can post a tutorial on your blog on your website to encapsulate your workflow?

I hope the cleanup and restoration goes well, James. This is a good thread to return to in order to relieve the stress.

Yes - My shots often look much darker on LUF than in the original files or on Flickr.
