Coffee Roaster, Neiderdorfstrasse, Zurich. XP2. We recently broke up a very long trip with a lovely day in Zurich.

A very nice feature was that the train system from the airport into the city centre is fabulous - cheap and very quick - about 15 minutes. We stayed at a hotel at the airport and used the trains like taxis.

Many thanks, Phil.  You captured the mood just right.  It was a dull afternoon and the only thing I had going which I didn't even realize until afterwards was the motion in the clouds.  Thanks again, my friend.

This is a fanatastic photograph. Now, as I type this in the "Reply" box, I am forced to view it in a panoramic view. The height is from the base of the waste can to the top of the passage through which the mother and child are passing. Even from that view it is fantastic.

I shot my second roll of Washi 120 rice paper film the other day ...

(There are six more on my flickr.com site, starting with #067 in this album:

https://www.flickr.com/gp/gdgphoto/47C6cG)

They were scanned with the Leica SL using a BEOON and Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm lens. Here's the capture setup:

I'm finally getting the hang of this film and how to process and render it. Perhaps something exciting will develop when I shoot the third roll... :D

i don't know what rice paper is but your pictures are amazing

I also like your setup for the scanning..... I tried that and failed miserably :(

Sincere thanks to all who have taken the time to comment on my work or give it a tick. It really does mean a lot, especially considering the wonderful work you are all producing.

Such good light and contrast, and for those with a curious eye, the reward of a bird in flight. Lovely work!

Thanks Steve. I thought I'd missed the bird until I got the film back from processing - damned SLRs with their shutter lag!

I find something about the look intriguing. After viewing the results for some time, it occurred to me that the appearance- at least to my eye- is similar to the view in very strong moonlight, or during that brief period, daybreak, when the things around you become more than just shadows. In order to stalk the wily, North American Turkey one must enter the woods well before daybreak. I would spend my time in the darkness trying to perceive that exact moment when daylight began to reveal the world. It always escaped me.....the transitory moment.

I think, from a practical use stanpoint, it reveals the things about an object or scene, most imposing......maybe the first things that trigger the mind. I am going to do some black and white conversions.

Really good thoughts there, Wayne. It does have that look - that slightly eery, ethereal half light of early morning. A bit like the movie makers when they did "day for night" effects using blue filters and so on. I am thinking, for example, of the film "Deliverance" where the Ed (Jon Voight) character goes hunting with his bow, or later when he scales the cliff. This could be a really interesting and creative medium warranting further exploration. The black and white conversions seem to be working really well too!

Big Smile. When I was shooting the ISO 1.3 stuff, I was using my Sekonic Twin-mate (Lowest ISO reading, 12) and increasing exposure a couple of stops. I think I needed another stop. This is great. I just purchased, yesterday, some Velvia 50 in 120, I am inspired.

I think I may have always underestimated Velvia 50 - even though I've always loved it. An incredible film. I, too, must use more (so much for my decision to just concentrate on B&W. Hell, life's too short!).

I keep returning to this wonderful photograph, and particularly enjoy the dignity and presence of the man.

Thank you
Charles

Thank you so much for your (as always) thoughtful comment Charles. This artist certainly had abundant dignity and I feel privileged to have been able to meet him, albeit briefly, and make a photograph of him. Again, photography is what gets me out doing these things, and I can't thank it enough.

Wayne nice composition and framing :) .

but IMO you lose definition , contrast ,tonality and details when you convert color to b&w Wayne.

and I know you are a "purist" like me :)

This is what I also found when I converted. How is the photo in color ?

Best

Henry - the wheat field is glorious and the movement really gives it some life. As does the red of the poppies - this particular bunch has very deep reds - outstanding against the deep yellow of the wheat.

My one slight preference would be for less background, which is a bit higgledy-piggledy. Often the background adds to the scene, but sometimes it's just a bit distracting. Here it looks a bit "industrial" which, to me anyway, doesn't flow with the rustic beauty of the wheat and poppies. What do you think?
