I spent a morning in Monopoli last week. In case you're visiting Puglia in Southern Italy, you should take a look. The old town is nice.

Hi Montezuma, the sharpness is fine for me

Contrast, definition and black and white tone are perfect IMO

I like the picture inside the church.

Great series and thanks for posting

As I said to Massimo , Italy is a nice place for shooting

I recently posted a picture from the Panjiayuan Antiques Market in Beijing (often called the Dirt market). A kind soul suggested I post another, so without much more prodding, here we are. Be careful what you ask for.

This market is the largest of its kind in Asia, and I suspect in the world. It is filled with interesting stuff and more interesting people like this woman. How anyone makes a reasonable living is a question in my mind, but what do I know.

My wife bought a beautiful bowl – that required buying another piece of luggage to get it home. It now graces our living room (the bowl, not the fake Samsonite). I came home with some pictures and my original luggage.

Thanks a lot. The problem I see with the V600 is that the in-software sharpening tends to add a lot of digital grain. It is not too bad in these photographs, but sometimes it is too much (specially on faces). I would like a better scanner, but I do not know what to get. Sometimes I re-scan the frames I like and then I add some sharpening in LR or PS to limit this fake grain.

The picture in the church was a surprise for me because it is a 1/30s hand held shot and coming from SRLs I find incredible that a rangefinder can be so much better in this kind of situations.

Antonio, I agree with your notice . Better and lighter in comparison wit SLR !

For sharpness , you have adjusted the studs on the support ?

I had a V700 and I find that the grain is correct

If you are making medium format (MF) , a flat scanner is suitable for 24x36 and MF

If you have only 24x36, take a Minolta dual scan or a Nikon Coolscan

If not , in the new take a Plustek

I was cleaning up my Trip 35 today (my first real camera, a Christmas present when I was ~14) and I thought to myself it would suit Adam's street shots. Zone focus, auto exposure and pretty small and light. 40mm/f2.8. From my first roll of Fujichrome that Christmas:

My God, I had forgotten those curtains! I certainly took a lot of unmemorable photos then, as now. You should try one out.

My M4-2 is at its second time for local service, it takes time to get parts here, I can't use my 35mm lenses on my M3, so I went to our local camera store and purchased the Trip 35 :)

The V600 does not have adjustable supports. It does work great for MF. I have a Mamiya 645 and the scans are really good.

What do you use now? If you scan at home.

Antonio I had a V700 and sold it

I have now 2 Nikon Coolscan one 5000 and one V

Minolta Dual Scan is also good for 24x36 and you can find in second hand at a good price

Also V700 you can find at 200 Euros (I sold at this price)

As you do MF,  it's better you buy a V700 second hand or if you can the new V850

Antonio , another question you use Epson software or another software

for scanning ?

If I remember , Epson software doesn't have sharpness option

I remind you , that the impressive side of a negative (side with relief) must be

against the glass ie down

Merci Henry,

My wife likes a good deal.

I like to keep my photographic life simple. Always Ilford XP2. It does exactly what I want. I never have any questions about whether I will have good negative - if my exposures are fairly close to correct (mainly I guess based on experience and some simple rules) and I focus properly, the negative will be essentially perfect. Easily printable and scanable, with no debate about developers or other chemical and physical things that distract. I spend my effort trying to make sure I point the camera towards the right place. Now there is the challenge.

Henry,

with the V600 I put the emulsion side up as indicated on the holders. Sometimes I have problems of Newton rings, but I don't have ANR glass so I use a heavy dictionary to flatten the negatives. I need to invest in ANR glass!

Inside Epson Scan you can decide the level of sharpening (zero, light, medium and heavy). I have tried also VueScan, but to me the results look the same as Epson Scan without sharpening.

While we didn't get to Monopoli, we really fell in love with Puglia when we were there in 2015. Loved it.
