Thanks, Henry. Bellamy helped me track down my SWC in Japan.

Funny Eoin, this video was shot in October  2014 , I can hear my voice in the background buying some gear when they speak about "if a G2 body  stops working..." !

Cheers, JM

M3, 50 Summicron DR, Fuji Natura 1600.

At sunset. So dark it was almost impossible to achieve focus. I am not sure I could have done it with any of my other M cameras.

As is normal for my posts, attributable to my ignorance of PP and scanning, the sharpness of TIFF is an order of magnitude better than rendered here.

My first single ended triode monoblocks used the Sovtek SE811 tubes, apparently originally designed for the MIG-25 Foxbat. These days I'm using push-pull KT88s, but my favourite version of them is made by electro-harmonix, who are also Russian.

Chris in my first amplifier Audio Research  ,  I have 6550 tubes of Electro Harmonix

I don't know they are manufactured in Russia !  I learn something today. Thanks Chris

Says the guy who seems to be tempted by an Olympus OM!

I just spent an interesting evening tracking down a second Zuiko 50/1.4, as my early single-coated example plainly isn't going to be very sharp wide open. It seems one has to find one of the final of four versions for that, with a serial number of 11xxxxx or higher, which are multi-coated and have other improvements. Even then, it's no Summilux. No matter, an 85mm/f2 turns up tomorrow, and it is said to be exquisitely sharp like a Summicron 75. I'm not sure I ought to worry much about these things, as I believe Jane Bown - Mrs Moss, married to the Moss of Moss Bros tailors - used an OM-1 with an early 50/1.4 after she was made to give up her Rolleiflex. She did OK with Samuel Beckett:

and since she is not well known, enjoy this trailer for a film about her:

It's well worth tracking down the full documentary.

She used a Rolleiflex for many years and was forced to swap to 35mm by the photo editor at her paper (The Observer) and didn't like the change. After that she made do briefly with a Pentax SLR and then settled on a pair of OM-1 cameras. There's a book of her portraits called Faces: The Creative Process Behind Great Portraits which is rather expensive now, but very inspiring.

I rooted around in the archives and found a 4x6 print that was from the very first roll of film I ever tried to print. This was taken with a Praktica Novaflex on HP4 about 1973 or 1974. I was about 16 and visiting my brother in London and we went to feed the squirrels in Waterlow Park. See his camera with the funky seventies strap? OM-1.

During a move from Nova Scotia to British Columbia in 2004, he threw out that OM-1, an OM-2 and all his lenses. Some things are not easily forgiven....but in 2012 I gave him an OM-1 and an OM-2 from KEH.com, plus a couple of lenses and some film. I don't believe he has touched them, so we're back to the not easily forgiven part!
