Fantastic sets, Eoin! The otus works wonderfully with film, and it's a real technical prowess to focus manually on the moving motorcycles. I think you captured the atmosphere of bangkok suburbs very well. Also the color in the yellow flower shot is so beautiful.

thank you, Edward. I only had a very short time to head outside get some shooting in before dark. The great thing about flowers is that they don't move s fast as motorbikes do.

I hope I get to meet up with you during one of my future trips up there.

Eoin is this camera ?

and what lens on Eoin ?

Nice color and street photos

Yes, Henry. It's the HS version, which can shoot film at a terrifying 10fps. The shots above were all with Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4, which is manual focus. It was starting to get dark, so I couldn't stop down and keep the shutter speed up. Portra 400 would have been a better choice, but Ektar is what I had with me.

B&W for me Henry, the colour shot is too dark, moody perhaps, but too dark.

Gary

Hi Gary thank you for your advice :)  ...   good guy you are :)

I'll refrain from making the color in these conditions , or do as GaryGS advises :

correct with Capture One or Light Room  .  The color is more difficult to have in the shade,

logic since we have no light.  That's why I don't agree with digital camera  to distort the

atmosphere and finally the photo , by increasing the Isos ... and also increases the "background

noise"  of the sensor, not beautiful to see when enlarged !

.... in addition :) "make a night photo like a day photo", it is not reasonable and for me it deceives

the one who looks at the picture. It is an imposture

Another solution : Gary I'll push KP160 to 400 Isos the next time

Here another picture in bad light condition in b&w

Thanks, Henry. Bellamy helped me track down my SWC in Japan.

Eoin, I think you mounted a good lens like the Zeiss Otus

So you know Bellamy I hope meet him during my next trip to Japan

I think he lives in Tokyo :)

Henry

Have you tried to mount a R lens like a R Summicron 50 or Summicron 35 like Gary ?

Hi, Henry. I contacted Bellamy when I was looking for a SWC, and my wife was making a trip to Japan. He was very helpful.

I don't have any R lenses, and I doubt if I'll be increasing my lens stable for some time to come, as I have pretty much all of the 35mm glass I want (yes, we know where those sort of statements lead...).

I already had the Zeiss lenses, along with several other EF-mount lenses, for use on my 1DX, so the 1V was a natural next step. It works a treat (although I only use it in single shot currently).

Says the guy who seems to be tempted by an Olympus OM!

I just spent an interesting evening tracking down a second Zuiko 50/1.4, as my early single-coated example plainly isn't going to be very sharp wide open. It seems one has to find one of the final of four versions for that, with a serial number of 11xxxxx or higher, which are multi-coated and have other improvements. Even then, it's no Summilux. No matter, an 85mm/f2 turns up tomorrow, and it is said to be exquisitely sharp like a Summicron 75. I'm not sure I ought to worry much about these things, as I believe Jane Bown - Mrs Moss, married to the Moss of Moss Bros tailors - used an OM-1 with an early 50/1.4 after she was made to give up her Rolleiflex. She did OK with Samuel Beckett:

and since she is not well known, enjoy this trailer for a film about her:

It's well worth tracking down the full documentary.

Thanks, Eoin :)

The green of the water looks particularly enticing, Adam.

Now that's what I'm talking about.  Great intimacy in these!  I can just feel the exhaust fumes through my monitor, though  :o

For Edward and Mitch - Bangkok (EOS-1V HS w/ Otus 55 - Ektar 100)...

Sorry Eoin I have not read you have the Zeiss Otus f/1.4  !

Yes just to compare Leica lens and Zeiss in example !

A lens is good , specially when you make a crop , the definition and sharpness must be intact :)

Thanks for your reply

Best

Henry
