I shot weddings in the early 1970s, all film of course. I did candida with the Nikon; the guy I worked for did the formals with the Hasselblad. I can't imagine that any of what we did then is at all relevant to today's wedding photography.

Or to the enjoyment of doing a bit of film photography in 2017, whether it's your main photo habit or a sideline to your digital work. I can't imagine justifying what I like to do on the basis of what it costs in any way.

Do what you like doing and enjoy it. :D

Every so often, a selfie is essential. As is a Polaroid ... or rather, an Impossible Project ... camera:

Looking good, Godfrey. It looks like you successfully caught yourself offguard!

I like this series of shots, Edward. Positive effect on Thread Standards, I would say.

I'm back up in Bangkok tomorrow night for some meetings on Monday, but don't know that I'll get a chance to do any photography.

I rolled about 5 shots of UN54 (iso 100) to test new Voigtlander 21mmF4 Skopar and shot it at iso 400 and stand developed it in Rodinal

Nothing special but lens looks ok

Sat waiting for security to open up for camera club, i usually get pestered for cash from homeless while waiting

Looks good, Gary. The detail in the gentleman's cardigan / jersey / jumper is impressive.

Most of my working life was with film cameras. Hasselblads, Nikons, and later, Leicas.

I shot many many weddings exclusively on Hasselblads, but shooting what I called 'setup candid' as well as true candid. It was very heavy hard work and I could cope with it then. Not now.

I also did many many theatrical shoots the same way!

Then I discovered Leicas and that changed everything for me. The cost of film etc for a typical stage production had my out of pocket expenses running at $500. The advent of reliable digital technology sudden put that $500 back in my pocket, yet still commanded the same bottom line for the client. Why would I ever shoot another film assignment? Only if the client requested it specifically. They never have.

I still love shooting for myself on my film cameras, when I can afford to.

Thank you very much Eoin! Let me know if you're free for a cup of coffee.

Regarding the film vs digital debate, I think the market has moved on away from film entirely, except for a very small niche segment. If I relied on photography for my living, I have no doubt I would be shooting digital, and probably not with a M. Luckily I'm just a hobbyist, so I can do any crazy thing I want, and I would classify my selling of my digital M and switching to analog exclusively as one of those crazy decisions, but I'm loving it :)

Hi Edward ,Steve,Erl and Hi All

For wedding,I like that people keep their natural expression and take the picture at that time,

It is better to be discreet :) , not like the professional photographers I see with their big SLR cameras

that want everyone see them, and in addition use their flash, I believe it is not discretion

but a photographic exhibition

I find that the M cameras respond perfectly to what I have just said.

About film versus digital , apart from the practical side that I understand, if I am a professional, my price

for the film will be a bit more expensive and if you tell your customers before and well explain to them,

I think they will understand.

Photographic art is the best in quality. Pictures must have a soul  , not synthetic very important for me

What do you think ?

Best

Henry

Wall Street, NYC
IIIg, 50mm collapsible, Portra 400

That is a beautiful and touching moment. And the light is lovely.

Is your 50mm collapsible a new one or an old? I have a 50mm collapsible Summicron and it is beautiful in all those Leica-ery qualities (rendering, bokeh, etc) but the front glass is as soft as the skin on a custard tart and previous owners have  wiped it clean with sand paper. It's like having a built in softar. (What a ramble!) My question is, "New or old?"
