Here another from Gnoll Park. Not the most interesting shot, but linked to a smugmug trial I just started. It looks as if I can get a proper jpg link to insert, we'll see.

On another note, the White balance has been corrected in ACR. Is it ok? I'm not a good judge of colour as you all know, so I usually go with the scanned jpg. This is just a test.

Christopher.

I'll go so far as to say I reckon the colour balance is off sorry.

While it is difficult to visualize what you saw my feeling is that your result here is too magenta. How to fix it? Not sure but I'll try tomorrow if I get a chance. Someone else will surely step up and give it a shot though.

Nice color and nice picture Gary , still operational your SL ... keep your money and buy film :)

Thanks for your thought :)

About your question concerning the R 35mm ,  I have one too but don't use at the moment

I want to test the 50 Summicron first. Thanks for your proposition :)

Gary if you have a 50 Summicron make a test with it and give me your opinion

Best regards

Henry

Thanks Henry.

I have the version one Summicron R 50mm and shot most of the flower shots with this lens. I like it a lot.

If you already have the 35 Summicron R, why not use it on the street, it's a great lens.

Gary no problem, this is of course not the original scan, but another test from Adobe Camera Raw using a neutral colour (the gravel by the bench) to produce a white balance. There is no need for you to correct. I am just after an opinion. I have the original scan to fall back on. After all colour perception is very subjective and also influenced by the viewing monitor bias and calibration.

Thanks though. I'd be interested in getting a few opinions though.

Kind regards

What a fascinating series Brenden, with engaging compositions and your gorgeous tonality, but where is it?

Thanks, Phil.  I agree! :)

Wonderful picture Adam - and one that decidedly works better with Portra than with Tri-X!

Thanks, Philip :)

Christopher.  Even though your perception of color may be slightly off, I am not quite understanding why your scanning software can't do a better job on "auto" mode to select a more balanced WB.

Adam, I love it, but you've ruined someone's street-cred with that! That girls face under the umbrella- if she were your daughter you would be in the dog house - [emoji23]

Very nice shot, but the WB is still off of the reservation, IMHO.

Right on!! :)

Wonderful photo and one that has appreciated like a fine bordeaux over the years.....  Thanks for sharing it.

Here's something from left field. I recently received a box of cameras and photographic gear to sell from my cousin's husband's deceased estate. Amongst the gear were a bunch of really old 35mm film canisters and, inside some of the canisters, was rolled-up film. It was in pretty ordinary condition, so I washed it like I'd wash a just-developed film and hung it up for a few days to dry and to try and straighten out a bit. At this stage I have no idea what or who is in them, but here is a sample picture I just scanned:

p2258741989-5.jpg

The registration of the cars, which look fairly new, dates it to 1953 0r 1954, as by the look of them do the clothes. The film is Agfa L ISS which I find pretty interesting and exciting, because it is one of the films Robert Frank was using contemporaneously. Camera and lens and photographer unknown but it appears to be a picnic somewhere in Victoria, Australia.

Not a bad result for ill-treated film from 64 years ago!

Hello Christopher, since it seems that you're trying to achieve a neutral colour balance on this photo I'll offer my view which is that the colour is not accurate. The attached is closer to neutral colour. I obtained this by adding a Curves layer in Photoshop, selecting the grey point pipette and clicking on the gravel to the left of the bench. It's still not good. For instance the trees seem too yellowish. Interestingly, and I suspect this is what causes trouble for the software, using the black point and white point pipettes will result in a very magenta image so it seems that's the source of the problem. I'm sure there are colour wizards out there who can to a much better job, but it does seem that this is not an easy photo to colour correct given the tints in the shadow and highlight areas. Just a few thoughts (and I hope you don't mind I had a go).

Phillip I'm going to try a plugin called color washer. I've had good results according to my IT manager, so we'll see.

Thanks for all your efforts. My colour perception is abysmal. I never realised the photo looked like something from Mars!

I corrected the hue and saturation of the purple color, green and yellow , tweaked the color balance brought the brightness down a tad and added some contrast ! It became a bit dull I guess.

Cheers, JM

Gary , just to submit you this remark  :)

I am in full period of street photos test, but I will try the 35mm (min focus at 0.3m) to see.

With a 50mm summicron (min focus at 0.50m) and at 3 meters we get this kind of street picture

below. I think it gives a nice effect :)

Do not ask me why he opens his mouth perhaps after a puff of electronic cigarette ?

In any case not beautiful to see :(

Kodak TX400-Leica R4s-50 Summicron

The Summicron 50 is really a good lens IMO for general rendering (contrast, definition,b&w tone...)

I prefer it to the M summilux 50 !

Henry
