I think if you correct colour film too much you are going to loose the distinctive look of certain films

I prefer to go straight from scan, but I forgot to do jpegs last night for 3.

Only these, I forgot jpegs in scanning and used the tif files in Photoshop to make jpegs at midnight and didn't realise under my artificial house lighting the colour cast. I thought Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw auto white balance would get it right, I was wrong. No this was my mistake I think, stupid genes from my german grandfather at work! My grandfather Karl Schäfer has a lot to answer for [emoji4]

Thank you Henry for your concern, but we will see later when i am home if the rest are ok when I upload.

Best wishes

Christopher

'I seem to remember having read somewhere that in a real-world setting (as opposed to under controlled circumstances) there isn't any "correct" colour; there are only more or less "accurate" representations of colour, which will necessarily be based on the observer's perception.'

Years ago I worked as an art teacher. I remember a test involving the red colour of the original cocacola sign. Students had 20 minutes to replicate the red of the sign in watercolours. This test had been earlier performed in the USA by 300 art students. Each result had then scientifically been messured. It showed that only one student got it right, some came close, but most were way off the original.

As you correctly note, Philip, all of us have different perceptions of colour. It is not a question of wrong or right.

Thank you for taking the time to make it clear!

Best, Xenia

The likes of William Egglestone and Martin Parr wouldn't be where they are now if their colours were perfect

Chris , I understand now. Thanks

I notice in some rolls when the dev temperature isn't keep constant we can have

a slight cast or dominant

You posted a same flower in digital taken with your DLux

The correction made by SS gives a rose-purple color better (specially the second

picture  in film than in digital and I also notice edges of the flowers are not sharp .

I prefer soft edges and color of film !

Best

Henry

Better ?

I mean this picture

Ok - using Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop I selected a neutral area. Defined as one where RGB are all within a range of 6 points by using colour selector. Then used white balance on the selection. So please note according to my friends the fence is green.

Portra 400 (photo in sun)

DLux Typ 109 (photo in shade)

I think the digital flower should be a little more vibrant. Jpeg out of camera.

Better? [emoji846]

The rose is nicer in the first picture above more consistent , also more faithful !

edges and line of the flowers too sharp in the second picture  , not natural !

... same notice for green color of leaves  :)

I was supposed to be making my way back home after a few days of landscape photography and walking on the hills surrounding  Wasdale, but I had a feeling the conditions were right for that elusive Wasdale cherry-red sunset alpenglow.   I decided to delay my journey and stick around to see what would happen.  Glad I did, you don't get long once the effect begins and it was an uphill sprint with a ton of camera gear (Xpan-2 and Fuji GX617!) to get to where I wanted to be.

I'm glad you didn't have time to be brief, Philip - An excellent post. It reminded me of the observation by Monet of his changing perception of colour as his eyes aged, viewing the annual cycle of his garden.

This is an example I posted a long time ago of a shot where I mistakenly left a yellow filter on whilst shooting Ektar, and found my crappy attempt at correcting the colours more intriguing than if the shot had been 'accurate':

Nice to see an XPan frame, and an excellent one as well, I have just acquired one (original) and started to learn its ways:

These 2 shots were from the same roll of film, one the colour are perfect and the other was sunlight and electic light mixed but i still really like the way the colours came out, £1 pound a roll Agfa Vista
