mrckdavies Posted March 8, 2017 Share #29041 Posted March 8, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I was concerned that the meter in my Rolleiflex wasn't right, so I used up a film with duplicate exposures, one using the internal meter and one using an external spotmeter. It turns out I was right, and the internal meter underexposes by 1-2 stops, but the funny thing is that the underexposed negatives allow me to pull out more detail in scans. This might be a quirk of the XP2 I was using. Anyway, one of the 'underexposed' negatives: test film by chrism229, on Flickr C. I like your conclusion. I shoot XP2 as well and have often thought about shooting for the highlights and letting the shadows look after themselves just as for slide film. I have never been bold enough to deliberately do it though. After this I think I may just give it a try. Thanks for posting your findings. Kind regards Christopher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited March 8, 2017 by mrckdavies

stray cat Posted March 8, 2017 Share #29042 Posted March 8, 2017 Kodak 4 ... After the scanning of the last MF-rolls, I realized the "water marks" on the scans .. GER_Chiemsee_R3_Porta400_07_listo.jpg Hasselblad 500cm, Kodak Porta 400 -> , Epson V700 Personally, I really like the effect, given that it's a "happy accident" and not a deliberate affectation. I think the reason for it is that the roll film gas been stored for a long time, perhaps in conditions where there is quite a lot of light and/or heat. You see this effect with Holgas a lot - part of their charm - and usually associated with the light leaks and fogging that their plastic bodies encourage. As there is no evidence of the latter two "faults" in your lovely picture I think we can fairly safely conclude that there is no light leak from the camera back (as you'd expect from a Hasselblad magazine) but that perhaps the film has been stored (before being loaded into the camera) for a long time under less than ideal conditions.

Ratzfatz Posted March 9, 2017 Share #29051 Posted March 9, 2017 Christopher, I don't have any idea what is going wrong. My workflow is always the same, so it could be only an material issue? Never see it before ... I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did that happen? I have shot and developed many 6x6 rolls of slide film in times past, but never seen that before.Kind regardsChristopherSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Phil, I would think that your suspicion could be true or is plausible .... but ... the film was stored in a big old oke cabinet. Which is good for my "Gran Reservas" should be good enough for my films . But who knows what's happen in the time before. I know there was a problem in the production of Kodak last year and is was impossible to get b/w-rolls ... maybe that is the reason of Adams experiences ... This is a well documented problem with recent batches of some Kodak 120 film. It is believed to be why 120 T-Max 100 has not been available for months and your's isn't the first time I've heard of it happening with 120 Portra 400 too. Andy Piper has written quite a bit about this in the film forum here. There is more discussion here on APUG. Edited March 9, 2017 by wattsy

gsgary Posted March 9, 2017 Share #29057 Posted March 9, 2017 Thanks, Erl. Can you choose the second shutter on an M7? I am really an idiot when it comes to flash. I just point and shoot and hope for the best. So often it all comes down to various elements falling into place along with a streak of luck - and not so much the execution of a technically correct workflow. But I am always open to suggestions! It is probably on the flash settings if it is possible Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

philipus Posted March 9, 2017 Share #29060 Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) Hi Adam, not to worry at all, I think I phrased my question rather poorly actually. I meant on a more general level, what does public appeal mean. I think you are completely right that a strong composition and in your face execution is much more interesting - as in appeals to more people, because either they like it or they don't like it, thereby having a greater 'public appeal' since it causes more discussion, emotions etc - than a photo which is blander and less provocative. The ones I posted clearly fall in this second category. I certainly didn't take your comment as suggesting there's only one way or a limited number of ways to shoot with flash in the street. A few ideas I've had during the evenings I've been out is how the flash would work with the 85mm diffuser and my 90 Elmarit-M at different distances, or with a 50mm lens and shooting people from above (though here in NL it's difficult to find people shorter than I am, and I'm pretty tall...) etc. So I have several things I want to try out. It's actually more than 20 years since I last shot seriously with flash and then never in more interesting and challenging circumstances (rather more like party or social settings). Then the flash and some other stuff was stolen during a break-in in my apartment in Sarajevo, damned crooks. In fact, if you hadn't started posting pictures shot using the SF-24D I would probably not have looked into that flash. It's a terrific unit so now I look forward to developing my flash skills, and the necessary courage, and will hopefully post more interesting results soon. I am grateful for your offer to give feedback (and I remember you did so once before about the reflections photos, which I also appreciate a lot) and I'll definitely bother you about that at some point Hi Philip - Thanks for your response. I don't want to make it seem that there is a finite way of shooting strangers with flash. So please forgive me if this is how it came across and feel free to ignore me. You have your own thing going and your own views regarding what you are after. Totally respect and support your interest and skills in this area. I guess my only hang up is that after your first few posts I was not getting a sense of your vision of what type of look you are trying to achieve. I am excited to just sit back and let you do your thing and enjoy the results. I am always happy to provide feedback should you specifically request it. All the best, adam These are truly terrific wildlife shots, Matthias, very enjoyable. ...again Kruger Park Südafrika 2017 (15 von 19).jpg M4 + ZM Planar 2/50 - CHM100 - D76 - V800 I like this one a lot Wayne.
