There was a period of only a few days in late November when the local hedgerows took on the most astonishing colour I have seen for years. The hawthorn in particular shone like gold leaf in the low sunshine, the oaks and sycamores too. Sadly, the frosts came around the same time and stripped the branches of this precious colour – I remember standing under an oak tree on a breezeless morning and the leaves fell like snow, silent and effortless.

Bamboo grove in Arashiyama, near Kyoto.

Had to wait for hours to get a shot without tourists.

Hasselblad 501CM, 50mm FLE, Fujifilm Acros, Rodinal, Low res Lab scan.

Ramesh

Pleasing tonal gradation - good example of the Acros 100 & Rodinal combination!

Keith,

I tried a number of developers with Fomapan 200, none of them really tamed the grain (but partially that may be my scanner as well).

FX-39 seems to harmonise quite well giving nice punchy results without pronouncing the grain too much.

Fuji Acros is my favorite 120 film, this is a beautiful example.  Very well done indeed.

Dave and Keith, Thank you. I have been shooting and processing Acros in Rodinal for a while now and I quite like it. However, I am told that I can get even a finer grain negatives with other developers such as Fujidol. I am yet to try a different developer though. The one problem I have with Acros is that the film is prone for curling and is quite difficult to scan.

Cheers.

Not just the colors in your photos that I like, your poetry as well — "silent and effortless".

I was surprised by how much detail there is in this shot, even on a pretty grainy film (Tri-X). Scanned with Coolscan 5000

Adam,

I was wondering when you would show the results. Colours and smoothness seems excellent, but it appears to be less sharp than its 35mm brother  :p !

Have a good Sunday,
