It has been a while since I last took a survey on some photos.  So hopefully my welcome is no longer worn out :)

Here are four photos of a sunrise in the (oily) dead sea.  Two are with Ektar and two are with Provia 100F.  They are four different exposures taken at different points in the minutes before sunrise.  Any and all feedback including which you prefer (if any) are most welcome.  Thank you!

FIRST -PROVIA 100F

THIRD - PROVIA 100F

FOURTH - EKTAR

Adam , when I watch your pictures and I know now a little your Dead Sea through your last pictures

I'll tell in foreground the color of sea is not the same in Provia and Ektar. More green in Ektar.

A little dark green in Provia.

For the yellow color in background , same notice not the same yellow in Fuji and Kodak.

May be the yellow of Ektar is more faithful but clearer with Ektar perhaps a little "cold" as color

less warm than Provia.

That said the four pictures are nice. You must print one in Ektar and one in Provia

Thanks for posting

Best

Adam,

All four pictures are excellent. My preference goes to the second. Like the first it has the advantage of symmetry ( in the sky ) over pictures three and four. What I furthermore appreciate over picture one, at least in the tiny web-format, is the material salt-crust feel of the buoy ( is this the correct name in English? ) on the right bottom, due both, to the camera vantagepoint, as well as to the colour contrast.

Best regards

Christoph

My wife told me that I have to make some huge prints for putting them on the wall. It was a pain in the a.. to handle such huge sheets in my small darkroom. But it worked :-) And no problems with grain on a 40x50cm- Sheet...

The few times I travelled to France I made different experiences: Warm and friendly weather and people, mostly very relaxed - and the best: not 12 flight hours away ;)

Henry,

Did you visit the museum? Apart from a wide range of exhibitions, they have a rather nice brasserie on the ground floor.

Here a detail view of part of the exterior (I have no idea how the tire tracks got up there...).

FOURTH - EKTAR

Number 2. Mostly it's composition and the position of the sun and elements. I like the Ektar colours very much though, too.

Amazing photo, Adam.

Sincerely

FOURTH - EKTAR

Very difficult to decide, I like all of them. But I prefer number 1, it is very clear, strict and has an eyecatching contrast between the cool blue tone of the water and the small yellow stripe over the mountains.

best wishes

It's not easy but I would prefer the PRovia 100F.

I prefer the first one, as it has a very calming atmosphere with almost no disturbances in the water surface. The colors in the second one are a tad nicer than in the first, but this pictures shows slightly more movement in the water.

Gregor thanks  but as said Pdt Obama  "Yes (you) can" (too) :)

I was much in SLR like Leicaflex or R4S before ... now since 15 years , I love M camera

but only with optical and mechanical range finder  ! :)

MP is really a good camera , simple and adapted for street photos (SP) , landscapes ....

and the silence of the trigger is sublime very discreet when shooting :)  specially in SP

Thank you so much for your exampels, which a very nice all. The MP is a realy good camera, sure ... but the truth is I am falling in love with another camera...  a Leica IIIb. I was very close to buy my (actual) dream camera last year in Octubre until my accident. The project IIIb is still "pending" and I hope to find a camera in good conditions again ...

OK should cross my way a cheap MP ...mmmhhhh :)

Thank you and best regards

Very interesting Christoph. Looks like a space ship.

On a recent visit to Lyon we visited the rather new Musee des Confluences in Lyon.

Situated at the junction of the Rhone and Saone, it has a rather striking design.

(I posted a rather unsharp picture some 20 pages earlier...)

Terrific, James. Colours, exposure, framing, just great.

This is an exciting comparison Adam, and it is very difficult to pick one favourite because each is compelling in its own way. I prefer the completely smooth sea of the first two because that adds to the minimalist theme. The sky looks better in the first but the sea looks more natural in the second. But the framing of the second one doesn't go well with the simple symmetry theme because of the salt formation in the lower right. So it's the first one for me, with a slight crop of the right-hand side to make it completely symmetrical.

Dramatic shot Marc. The bird and the horizon being at an angle add drama. Actually it could be seen as a really sad photograph of loss, uncertain future etc. Well done.
