Christoph it's was in France this ... ? :)

Nice grain. Polypan is PanF from Ilford ?

Thanks for posting

Best

Henry

Henry,

It was at the Caumont centre d'art in Aix-en-Provence. They showed, and may still show some nice works of the English painter Turner. The centre is situated in a nice old hotel particulier. They kept all signs in style, except that they had no old-style design for the wheelchair :)

Polypan-F is NOT an Ilford film (as far as I could find out), not as fine grained as Pan-F by far, and also the general quality is inferior. But it has a nice "matt" characteristic and for that I use it on occasion, mostly rated at ISO 100 in place of the nominal ISO 50.

This is my fav, Massimo.  Very classic look.  It appears a little flat on my screen, which may just be my screen but you might consider popping the contrast just a tiny bit.  Lovely.

Thanks Adam. It's early days to be honest, and normally I am a "fair bit of huff and puff, and if I don't get along with something immediately I get shot of it".

It's taken me literally years to find one of these gems, so I will bide my time. If I can't get along, I have decided to put it aside, and try it again later. Well, that's the plan.

Two things are becoming apparent, one which you and Chris(M) eluded to. This being the shadow. I like the square format, but of the latest two rolls, at least half of them have my cursed shadow in them, aaarrrrgggghhhh. So, I trim them slightly, but if I am going to do that I might as well just use the A-16 back!!! Part of this is the low sun angle right now, we are mid-winter.

The other is cost, a roll of colour 120 is not cheap, and 12 shots is a third of what I get with the R8/M6 etc. Then processing, and then the need for a larger scanner. I initially thought I'd shoot slides, but I now find E-6 processing is all but dead in the water in NZ, so I am avoiding this. B&W I can and do myself, so this is where I am leaning. Despite what The Doc will suggest I am not really interested in C-41 processing.

Don't let this negativity fool you though, I enjoy the weirdness, the weight, the bulk, and the simplicity of this brick.

Gary

Hi Gary - Thanks for the response.  I, too, occasionally have undesirable encounters with my shadow.  It usually happens in early morning or late afternoon light.  The square frame makes this problem particularly acute b/c the foreground is so important to the photo.  During my time in Israel this summer, I have gone through at least 20 rolls of 120 film, mostly slides.  And I still have a few weeks to go and several packs of 120 film to blow through.  The SWC clearly isn't an all purpose camera.  I can't look at a composition in the distance and think that my SWC is going to capture the moment.  There are so many of these type of scenes and I really miss my 180mm Zeiss Sonar and 6x9 film back for these longer focal length shots.  I am left with the challenge of finding deep scenes with good foreground, and also using the 12" minimum focus distance to capture macro nature scenes.

Sometimes, when my body appears in the ground glass preview uninvited, I can avoid having it in the photo by taking a few steps back and firing the cable release.  Other times, though, the camera remains in the photo.  In this situation, you can either crop and kill that part of the foreground, which isn't ideal b/c it may detract from the depth of the scene, or you can return to the scene another day at a slightly different time of the day.  For example, I went to the Western Wall again yesterday late afternoon at around 4:30 and found myself frustrated b/c I wanted to take a very close up photo of the large stones on the wall but couldn't b/c my head and camera appeared uninvited.  This was my fault b/c I should have arrived an hour earlier and I would have gotten pretty much the same light but w/o the intrusion of my head and camera.

For wide angle scenes with good foreground, it is really a dynamite camera.  For other types of scenes, it can be a little like fitting a square peg through a round hole...

I've been away for a while (and hope to have new material to post soon). It's great to see so many new participants in the thread.

Here's another one from MUC. I remember I shot at minimum distance with the 80 Planar and tried to keep very still (Provia 100).

I think this is my favorite among all of your wonderful flower photos.  The colors are simply sublime.

Marc - I think you just made me miss NYC, which I didn't think was possible.  Great POV.  One that is on my list...

A few more from Pakistan, than on to another country.  This is where my laundry was done.  Needless to say, after three months there was not many left to carry home.

Last one.  This is how I traveled around town.  It was safer than in a cab.  Animals are very protected there, where cab drivers are not.
