KevinL Posted July 28, 2016 Share #19103 Posted July 28, 2016 ... and I still love film! Even/especially for travelling These are some snapshots I brought back from a month in Vietnam. I also worked on a little photo story while there: http://www.philippwortmann.com/lounging-in-viet-nam #2 and #6 are easily my favorites of this very fine set. But #5 is also very good -- remember many little shops like this from growing up in 1970s HK. Post more!

Wonderful shots with vibrant colors. I'm quite envious, I really am dying to travel to Vietnam. One of my recent trips to China on research I had hoped to leave via a short jaunt through Vietnam, but it didn't work out. too old to care Posted July 28, 2016 Share #19112 Posted July 28, 2016 I spent three months in Pakistan. It was a very interesting place. These are also Kodachrome scans via my flatbed Canon scanner. I would love to rescan them, but it takes so much time now. Hope you enjoy them. Welcome, dear visitor! too old to care Posted July 28, 2016 Share #19115 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) Last one for today. The last two were taken inside a very dark carpet "factory." Shot with a Rollei 35 SE with a 2.8 Sonnar lens. There are several grades of carpets made there, the very fine ones require small hands, so they are mostly made by children. Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted July 28, 2016 Author Share #19120 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) Stunning come back of film photography * "Sales of photographic film have been steadily rising over the last few years, with professionals and amateurs alike rediscovering the artistic control offered by manual processes and the creative satisfaction of a physical end product" "Similarly, there is often a lack of understanding of the experience of shooting film; the vast majority of digital camera users nowadays have never actually tried shooting with an analogue camera, just as most music listeners have never handled, played and fully listened to a vinyl record. There is a simplicity to the pared-down experience that can be of genuine creative benefit. “Necessity is the mother of invention; there is no point staring at the back of a film camera after taking a shot – that time and energy is already going into the next one. Not knowing immediately what has been captured is a creative advantage”, said Walter Rothwell, a professional photographer who regularly uses analogue cameras for his work." "Film has a quality that is unique; a beauty and tonal warmth that digital cannot match. Like the vinyl versus MP3 debate, there is something inherently different about a physical process compared to a virtual one" Film comes strongly back and young people are interested . A good thing "High Fidelity in sound" by vinyl and "high fidelity in image" by film = same fight ... as I said Henry Good reading * from Carlos thread , thanks : http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/262922-film-photography-makes-a-stunning-comback/ Edited July 28, 2016 by Doc Henry
