Thanks! I grew up using Canon film SLRs and recent came upon a 100mm FD lens f/2 which is a great lens. I do have a Elmarit M 90mm but it is in the shop being recalibrated. While this pics don't show it, the value (to me) of using a SLR for longer lenses is that selective focus of a crowd or group is much easier with an SLR. After an evening with the F1 (and I was using my M-A alongside, you see those shots in the People section), I am happy to put it back on the shelf!

I have a couple of "New F-1's" back at home, which i haven't used since the 1980's. I must drag them out next time I'm back. I think I've still got a FD 17mm f/4, FD 50mm f/1.2, and a FD 500mm f/8 Reflex sitting somewhere, too.

give'em a try .... I had the new F1 and foolishly sold mine, bought back a mint old F1 for $250. I prefer the newer version. In any event, not sure there is an advantage to the 17 versus a RF, even the 50 will deliver some opportunities to quickly focus selectively vs RF.

My first experience of 'doing the Ton' on two-wheels was a pillion on the back of an 850 Commando - peering over the rider's shoulder watching the needle creep past the 100mph mark...

I went down to the nearest wharf to see if the boats were in the water for the upcoming lobster season, but only the traps are set out for loading. I rather wished I had a colour film as all the floats are painted in various colours to show who owns them, and all those lines are various bright colours too. Never mind, I chose XP2 as it was dull and overcast with rain and flurries in the air.

Chris, mate, I love that first shot.

One of those shots that makes me teeth grind 'cos I didn't take it. Sounds like a sort of back handed compliment, but stil heartfelt.

I had two F-1 New for more than 20 years in use. Did the same mistake and sold them. Wonderfull glas 1,2/50, 1,2/85, 1,4/24 ....

you are right: quick focus works fine. If possible use the laser focus screens.
