Leica R8 + Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm f/2.8
Ilford Delta 400 Pro

Processed in the Agfa Rondix 35 using my standard procedure.

enjoy!

I like this. A simple and symmetrical delight.

I was only thinking the other day that I do not think I have seen a photograph taken on Ilford Delta 400 pro and was wondering why? And here one is ! Most people appear to use Delta 100 and I had not given much thought for the 400 as HP5 always comes to mind for a faster film.

Can anybody offer any comment on Delta 400 and if it is their film of choice ?

Delta 400 Pro is a T-grain film where HP5 is more similar to classic Tri-X in grain structure. They both do well; I think the Delta probably has an edge when being pushed but I can't say that I've tried it.

Both do well with my standard processing: Rondix 35, 68°F @ 8 min no matter what the film. It produces the slightly coarse, slightly soft, but detailed image structure you see in this photo. It's the look I like the most in film images.  B)

How do you work out your exposure on theses shots, I don't get much chance to shoot this sort of shot on a Friday night I'm in the pub Saturday I can't get up early enough because I'm getting over Friday night [emoji3]

I prefer HP5 because I like how it looks developed in Rodinal

well, Gary, first of all I took this on a Sunday :) evening :)

I'm like you and am not able to shoot on Friday or Saturday evenings, although for slightly different reasons  :)

In low light like this with an expansive scene, I most probably exposed for the highlights and then checked the other areas in the scene and made sure that it placed those other areas on EV that were not too dark.  If not, I would have adjusted.  So I would have pointed my spotmeter (Minolta Spotmeter F, which is a 1 degree meter) at the bright yellow area in the right middle portion of the sky and then set that EV as the highlight, which would have given me an overall exposure that is about 2 stops brighter.  And I then I would have adjusted as needed (which I can't remember, but essentially if this reading would have placed the darkest part of the scene that I wanted to show detail below zone 3, I would have increased the exposure, knowing that I would likely have less colors in the sky retained (b/c as you increase the exposure in the sky you obviously lose the vibrance and saturation of the colors).  It's all a balance, but that's the fun!!

On Tri-X with Pyrocat HD new F6 with 55/3.5.

Delta 400: I must like  it because I just checked the Delta 400 group on Flickr and have 189 shots on it.

I think I like it best in 120, faster but still low grain.

Wonderful tonal range. Was the sun shining on the bridge - it is very bright and a very informative study of the bridge (or was there an information board in front of you where you could copy that down!).

Thank you, yes the sun was very low, about 1pm on December 27th last year, it doesn't get very high at all in Scotland then and I rushed to get a shot off the 90mm gear was second shooter in the bag, I nearly missed it.

I copied the architecture text from a heritage page somewhere I thought it explained more clearly why it is so attractive to the eye than I could.

A monkey's fist if I am not mistaken !

The grain on the wooden box stands out nicely. Unless it is due to the scanning process, you can see a difference between the 35mm and 6x4.5.

Harvey 777 ???

I have just done a quick google search and see that Rondix is a developing tank or a flat coated retriever and I doubt you develop your films in a dog. I really like the tone in the print - what developer do you use and have you toned afterwards ?

Nice shots Chris !

Adam and Chris, I 've just bought a SWC/M an hour ago, any tips ?! :-)

Cheers JM

Congratulations! I am no great expert with this camera, but I have learned to pay attention to getting it level, to watch for the shadow of the camera/tripod/photographer creeping into the bottom of the frame when the sun is behind you. What I would find interesting to do with it is to try some more portraits. There is a sweet spot between having your subject too small in the middle of the huge field of view and having their nose enlarged by getting too close. That said, it's better to get closer than you would expect. My problem is lack of subjects who aren't exhausted by being repeatedly photographed....
