Very nice. Did you retouch the scan? I'm actually thinking about a scanner for medium format

Ileo I have compared in one thread , now delete by Andreas when changing LUF to LF , with Ian, Pete and others

V700 , V750 with Nikon Coolscan , Epson is one of the best in MF and in 135 at the price around 600-700 Euros , specially in b&w

DMax Epson 3.6 versus 4 Nikon. Can go over A4 in print

Following the earlier photo from my first roll of film through a Leica M3 (it was HP5+), here is a shot from the first roll of colour film.  I am really starting to enjoy looking at the film composition and photos for content and story, rather than the constant aim of ever-sharper and perfectly focused that digital was leading me to.

I really appreciate the layers in this one, from the colourful and close foreground, then stretching the eye up and away.  Wonderful.

And without wanting to railroad this thread, curiosity got the better of me. "Where is Mieussy"? So I looked in Google Maps of course.

Looks lovely, and a place I really must visit. Interestingly, saw an aircraft in the shot, so did a quick screen-grab.

Gary

Gary, I'm chuffed that you took the 'bait' to check up on the location of Mieussy from my "Fishing competition" photograph. By all accounts, it's a lovely part of the world and worth a visit; of course, I don't mean just Mieussy in particular but the whole of the larger territory around. Geneva is our closest international airport.

(You live in a lovely part of the world yourself – The Land of the Long White Cloud. I was in Christchurch for 5-odd years too!)

You are right in that the fish don't stand much of a chance, since they stock the lake up the day before the competition. I don't know how much sporting spirit there is among the fishermen but they make a lovely picture and have a good time.

Here's another photograph from the day.

Mate, I was brought up in the southish part of Stockport, but obviously now an expat since 1999.

There's a part of me itching to get myself back up to my original neck o' the Pennine woods where dark and moody light is two a penny, and the dark and moody subjects are three a penny. I look at your pickies with nostalgic recognition.

Kinder Scout?

Castleton?

Snake Pass?

(Edited)

Matlock

Leek (ok, next door)

Buxton

And lets add the areas around Macclesfield, the entire Cheshire Plain, the High Peak, and why not the nasty moors immediately west of Manchester (the closest to my heart).

I did hike the Pennine Way in my 20s and have a troublesome knee to prove it. And the first 100 miles remain my personal joy.

Keep posting those Peak District pickies, cos they push the right sort of buttons for me.

Ric

All my old stamping grounds on foot and on my bike. Born & bred in Marple just up the road from Stockport.  Left the area a loooong time ago though!

Regarding scanning, virtually all the images (35mm & 6x6cm) that I have uploaded here have been scanned on my V700.  Below is a Rolleicord Vb one, shot on FP4Plus.  St Mawes Castle, looking across the Fal estuary to Pendennis Head in Cornwall.

Nice pic Doc.

I Want to get a russian Helios 44-4. From what I saw, it's a great lens with a wonderful out of focus (why call it bokeh?!).

Though I don't now if the M39 mount is coupled, but I think it's not.

About the scanner, I have a Coolscan for 35mm and it's great. There's the Nikon 9000 for MF but it's ridiculously expensive, something like Euros 4000,00.

Also the Plustek (?) for MF is about Euros 1400-1500,00. I'll probably try the Epson.

Gary, you may want to have a look at Peter Loy's site. He has both 35 and 50 Summicron in stock, for within your budget.

I probably should ask in the M leases forum but I would rather ask my friends here, I don't have a Leica lens yet only Voigtlander which are very good, I have 40mmF1.4 Nokton, 35F2.5 Color Skopar, 50mmF1.5 Nokton asph, 28mmF2.8 Ultron all M fit but I want to get a Leica lens I'm trying not to spend more than £750, so far I'm looking at the 35F2. 8 Summaron and f3.5 Summaron, what other would be worth looking at not stuck on 35mm but I don't want anything over 50mm

That is superb. The detail on the brick is fantastic.

I thought I would offer two images, one with post processing (Silver Efex plug in through Lightroom), the other as scanned (I scan 'flat' as they say) on a Plustek 8100. See next post.

I see no harm in post processing but like a very contrasty print there can be too much pushing of the sliders at times.

Does anybody prefer the unprocessed image or should the processing be somewhere between the two ?

Taken with M7 on Fomapan 100.

SEfex is a good tool for b&w conversions of .dng files but is too heavy-handed for film, unless one uses it via PS then dial-back the effects of the layer. When I first went back to film a few years ago I used to use it when processing scanned .tiff files shots but nowadays I prefer the results I can achieve just in LR.

Your first shot seems rather contrasty and the sky above the bridge has suffered some kind of pixelation.  Any scanned shot, particularly when deliberately scanned 'flat' benefits greatly from adjustments via the sliders in LR.  I go into the development module, click on Auto then tweak the sliders to achieve the look I want.
