Match

Kodak Portra 400 against Kodak TX400

Pictures virtually  taken at the same time , at around 100 m high .

Which you prefer ? ....   probably two  ?  :)

I prefer not to convert color to black and white to be in the "purity" and "test of perfection" :)

Kodak Portra 400

(dev home lab Tetenal 30°C)

Leica M7

Summicron 28 Asph

Brilliant !

Do you remember the shutter speed !?

Best JM

Those 6X9 shots are truly stellar; resplendent in the early morning light. I love the intricate track detail in the second one. The bridge itself, though not central to the images, serves to anchor them to the grittiness of the surroundings.

Super stuff.

By the way, how long were the exposures?

JM/Suede - Thanks for asking.  The shutter on the first was either 6 or 14 seconds, which would translate into a 4 or 8 second native shutter speed (respectively) and then increased for reciprocity failure.  The shutter on the second was either 3 or 6 seconds, which translates into a 2 or 4 native shutter, respectively.

Best,

Adam

Thank you Ileo and Ian for your choice of b&w

and also thanks Adam for watching and choosing color version :)

In b&w enlarged print , I prefer b&w  but the color is also nice

a difficult dilemma

External temperature : minus 5° Celsius

Cloudy and snowy at 3200 m in May 2015

The colour reminds the seasoned films. '60s, '70s.

I'm a bit of an astronomy nut so finding myself in a dark(ish) site over Christmas I thought I should photograph the stars on Christmas Eve with the full Moon (first on Christmas Eve since 1977, I believe). Well, things don't always go as hoped. I knew the Moon would blow out and was OK with that because I wanted the stars to show so exposed accordingly. Well, that's a bit of an overstatement - I put the M4 on Bulb, pressed the cable release and counted to two. Or was it four? It certainly wouldn't have been more because the stars would have trailed. But that flare! Still, I think it adds a certain I don't know what to the image. Flaw, probably :)

Great to hear Gary. It's such a fascinating area. And another black hole () to fall into equipment-wise.

I agree with you, that would have made for a much better image. But my fingers were freezing and I juggled two other cameras so lost track of what I was doing, plus I wanted to go in and celebrate Christmas. Excuses, excuses!

I'm a confirmed astro nut myself Philip.

Perhaps I'd have committed to two shots, one of the moon, correctly exposed, the other the stars, and then "merged" them?

Just goes to show how adaptable the eye is.

Having said all that Philip, and Henry won't appreciate this, but digital is definitely waaaaaay easier, believe me. I normally use an old X-E1 for astro, ticks all/most of the boxes.

Tried using the Leica T, limited to hopeless, nothing over 30 seconds.

Very interesting experiment, Philip. The flare looks like something from outer space! It adds a very cool dimension.
