Staying on the subject of things Neolithic (post #8417), the shot below was taking the same afternoon and just a short walk away from the burial chamber.  Mid-August, English high summer! Mysterious Silbury Hill rising up out of the Wiltshire landscape - purpose still unknown...  MP, 1967 Summaron 35mm f2.8, Portra 400.

From the South Dorset Ridgeway last month. Only 4 weeks previously there were still dozens of swallows here feeding up prior to their long flight to Africa and the hedgerows were still heavy with summer fruit. Winter seems to come quickly up here.

Strip lynchets near Bincombe. A common feature of the chalk downland, they are particularly prevalent in this part of Dorset.

Is that natural vignetting from the Summaron, Keith or have you added it in post? Amazing to think how Silbury Hill must have looked in it's day without the turf overlaying the chalk.

Entirely down to me, Ian!  Have never noticed any vignetting with my 35mm Summaron - very much my favourite 35mm lens.

Sorry Keith. Good shot, but for me the vignette is too strong.

i would agree. Perhaps it is a mater of taste. But i happen to think that the images stand on their own very well without the added vingetting. i cant say this about all vingetted photos. But i can say that about Keith's.

Interesting reactions to the vignette on the Silbury Hill photo.  I used it to enhance the dominance of the hill, to concentrate the eye on it rather than have a general landscape that just so happens to include the hill.  Sans vignette version below...

Apologies for opening up that can of worms but I do think it looks better without the vignette. Silbury Hill is reputedly the largest man made hill in western Europe, I think it catches the eye without any extra help. :D

very beautiful, Henry.  This has the reddish hues in the orange that is distinctive of Ektar, which I like a lot.
