A miller Posted August 26, 2015 Share #6472 Posted August 26, 2015 More kodak ektar cityscapes these next two are from the driving lane that is on the southern edge of the Queensborough/59th street bridge just before sunrise a couple of weeks ago. I planned to check this place out for the sunrise thinking that i might be able to set up on the small shoulder of the driving lane. If successful, the position would be ideal because there is no fence or other obstruction to the view. One can easily do a swan dive into the East River if one wished to "go" that way. I live just a few streets away and hiked to the entrance of this driving lane of the bridge and realized that there really was no shoulder to squeeze into. However, the lane was closed off to cars so i thought it was my lucky day and i started walking along the lane across the bridge to the Queens side. I stopped a little more than half way to position myself for these two photos when the sun starting to beam across the city. These pre-sunrise shots are NOT the shots i wanted. to make a long story short, my adventure was cut extremely short and i got escorted off the bridge by the NY Police Department. Turns out that the bridge is closed every night until 6am. I was blocking the road and depayed the opening of the lane. I hadnt even had a chance to take any shots by the time the police came with their lights flashing. I was already set up and waiting for the glorious pending sunrise. So i just snapped these shots while the cop was on his radio talking about how he "had" me. I am quite impressed with how the Ektar picked up the colors in the pre-sunrise sky. I think the film's tendency for saturation helps this. Shot with a 180mm Zeiss Planar medium format lens. Welcome, dear visitor! A miller Posted August 26, 2015 Share #6476 Posted August 26, 2015 Did they give you a ride home? They gave me a ride to the other side of the bridge and then kicked me out of the car. The sun was rising fast and the light was unbelievable and i ran with all my gear about 15 minutes to the edge of the water on the Queens side to catch the very end of the sunrise (from a random and less than ideal vantage point that i hadnt souted). My back and knees hurt for days afterward. And i lost my (very nice Linhof) cable release and had to trace back my steps and miraculously found it. Here is a shot from the salvaged ordeal...
