Doc Henry Posted May 14, 2015 Author Share #4461 Posted May 14, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I think I prefer b&w without filter, it gives softer tones. Here are two - with and without yellow filter (both M7 Summarit-M 50/2.5 Ilford XP2), F1000011.jpg CNV00016.jpg Ellie , that you win one hand (structure, sharper) , we lose another (softness) The image is "harder" when you put a filter The best is as you said ... without Nice tonality and grain in the first picture Best Henry Edited May 14, 2015 by Doc Henry

Suuumm55 Posted May 14, 2015 Share #4469 Posted May 14, 2015 I don't need to improve the shot , because I want to keep the original atmosphere and this "mid full dark" and quiet ambiance of the church, as I feel at the time of taking the picture. Henry, i agree with you to be happy - there are moments that fits just about anything and you are sure

A miller Posted May 15, 2015 Share #4479 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) Hi All , for Adam , Ric, Cuthbert some SP at Paris The Louvre entrance, the famous Pont des Arts is in background Image29louvspkp160mp35lalfht+++-2-900.jpg Kodak Portra 160 MP Summilux 35 Asph Best Henry Hi Henry - thanks for all the kind and thoughtful comments on this thread. I have a question about this photo. It seems about a stop to a stop and half underexposed to me given the overall scene. Reason is that, while the sky looks beautiful and very well exposed, the people are underexposed and thus hidden from the scene. Can I suggest that you try to increase your exposure of these types of shots by a good stop and maybe even a stop and a half? The sky may not stay as perect, but you will retain a lot of detail in the sky and open up the foreground a great deal. The scanner should give you a file that will avoid blown highlights anywhere in the image (even though given the exposure you used the skie would be blown out with any digital camera) and allow you to introduce the highlights as you wish all while preserving the shadow detail as well (like having your cake and eating it too). As an example, on a perfectly sunny day for a shot like this, with 800 ISO I would shoot it at 1/1000 at f8 (maybe even f6.7 depending on the color of the people's skin and their clothing). How does this compare to how you shot it? It seems like you may have used your in camera meter which picked up the highlights in the sky and decreased the exposure, which is why I HATE in camera meters! I could be wrong about this, and would be interested in your thoughts. Edited May 15, 2015 by A miller
