Artichoke Posted April 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 4, 2007 can't say I have ever seen one quite like it good capture considering what must have been difficult shooting circumstances
elansprint72 Posted April 4, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2007 Stuart, I don't normally ask those stupid "what f-stop...., etc?" questions (as if any normal human could remember).... but which camera did you use, any close-up lens? Reason for asking is because both of these are pretty remarkable shots!
stuny Posted April 4, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 4, 2007 Arthur - Thank you. Pete - Thank you. It definitely was the R8/DMR (by then it was the only camera with me), and I'm nearly certain it was the 80-200 wide open at a fairly slow shutter speed. azzo Posted April 4, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 4, 2007 Beautiful. Fantastically captured Stuart, especially the 1st. The light, colours and framing, make this image really, really nice. Azzo
elansprint72 Posted April 4, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2007 Stuart, Thanks, when I said "pretty remarkable" that's because I know that you don't travel with specialist butterfly photographing gear, if you did the big eyes and hairy legs would be much clearer but you would probaly have had a less-rewarding trip. Nice to see what one can produce with fairly normal gear and the right subjects, not perfect but a good memory filed away . Was the submerged camera a total loss? stuny Posted April 5, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted April 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ivan - thank you, and I should have an itinerary for you pretty soon. Pete - Thanks. Unfortunately, the "swimmer" was a total loss. Over about a three-month period I finally got a much-reduced price on a replacement FX-07, which is the basis for the C-Lux-2. The only good thing about it taking so long is that the FX-01 was no longer available to Panasonic, so they had to “make do” with the FX-07. The differences? 7.2 mega pixels vs. 5, one can boost the brightness of the LCD on record or playback for use in strong light, and one can set the LCD to show brightly and clearly from well above or well below axis, making it easier to do a low or high camera position shot (trickery in how the liquid crystals are aligned). You can see the results on NYC pages 4 & 5 on our site. Most of the images are from the FX-07, including those Chrysler Building lobby shots, and the 1.3 second handheld church interior.
