Simon Lewin Posted April 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello there, I've just tried connecting my new M8 to my iMac G5 (running OSX 10.4.9) for the first time. I'm using the cable supplied with the M8 and had assumed that the camera would appear on the desktop (as with previous digital cameras). But it didn't. Looking at the manual, it says "Use the program 'Digital Pictures' to transfer pictures from the card to the computer". But I can't see this application on my iMac or the CD supplied wit the M8. The USB cable seems fine, as the Leica Digital Capture application works fine. Apologies in advance if I'm missing something really obvious - but I could do with some assistance. mikeadams Posted April 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2007 When I connected my M8 to my 15" MacBookPro for the first time, I too was surprised that the card icon did not appear on the desktop, but I have my computer set to automatically open in the Mac program Image Capture when it senses a camera. So even though the icon does not appear, Image Capture does and I click to transfer to the directory of my choice. hdrmd Posted April 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2007 A simple way to get it done is to open the application Image Capture, then create a folder for the app to download your photos. Once they are in a folder on the desktop, you can open them in Lightroom, Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, or whatever you prefer. Yes, but it's not the reason I'm not buying a Mac yet. The main thing I want in a Mac is a sub 3lb notebook. 13.3 inch screen would be nice, but probably asking too much. 12 inches would be satisfactory. Also want a 5+ hour battery life. And yes, it can be done: Thinkpad X60s (8 HOUR battery life!!!). The only thing it lacks is OS X! And that's not really that vital to me either, so if Apple doesn't produce one by this summer, I'll be getting a Thinkpad. Or a Sony SZ, which weighs only a little more. Why the snideness? I'm merely commenting that I wished there was an ultralight MacBook with a built in card reader. It would be ideal for travel photography. I guess if people are sounding snide it's because you seem like you're holding Apple to a strange and very personal set of standards. Buy the Lenovo--the old IBM Thinkpads were some of my favorite laptops. There is no Mac on the horizon that meets your requirements, except the elusive subnotebook which is little more than a rumor at this point. However if your using 10.4.7 or later, in your Application's section of Finder, you will see a program with the name of Image Capture (has a camera icon). I've tried using Image Capture a couple of times now - it sees the M8, no problem. But I'm struggling to transfer more than one image before the camera sorts of 'hangs' - I have to turn it off, force quit Image Capture and then start again.
