Anneke Posted May 17, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted May 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I know that the D Lux 6 is capable of recording 1080 HD videos. The speakers also interest me. I wanna know if they use a particular type of software, or just what they designed themselves. How good is the sound, and how good is the clarity of the videos? Â I currently use a Canon camcorder and the video quality is pretty good. The built in mics use Dolby Sound technology. Â I know it may seem odd for a person asking these questions but it makes sense in a lot of ways. Most shooters using camcorders learn to rarely rely on the built in mics as they usually pic up too much sound. Plug in mics are usually the answer to this. So at the end of the day it doesn't matter greatly. Â However I'm thinking of experimenting with Leica's (probably) untapped video capabilities. Considering they have yet to truly become a contender of video.
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Hi Anneke, Take a look here Leica D Lux 6 - Recording Video. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted May 19, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted May 19, 2013 Anneke, remember that the Leica point-n-shoot cameras are built on Panasonics. Both Canon and Panasonic have a big presence in professional video, as you know. Â That said, I haven't any answer to your specific questions. Most of the professional film shooters have gone away from their expensive video cams and take benefit of the superior lens technology of photo camera's. Most of the professional film shooters have gone away from their expensive video cams and take benefit of the superior lens technology of photo camera's. Â Yes I know that. What I am planning to do is purely experimental. Or maybe its a theory. I recalled reading this article dated back in 2012 or maybe it was 2011. A magazine asked one of the heads of Leica if they would ever come out with a true camera that could be used to shoot videos. Something along the lines of a dslr I'm guessing is what they wanted to know. The Leica rep commented that it would theoretically be possible. I guess what he meant was that a person could use some of their cameras as a practical tool to use to shoot videos. Â I've used a camcorder and dslr. I just read that the M 240 is Leica's first HDSLR camera. But people aren't too fond of it. Â I just want to show if theres any practicality of using a d lux to shoot videos. I think many Leica enthusiasts might be interested to know this.
Thomv Posted May 21, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted May 21, 2013 Anneke, in the the M9 product forum is a thread on LFI on M video which you might find interesting.
jaapv Posted May 21, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted May 21, 2013 Well, I have noot used the DLux6 to shoot video, (as I don't own one ) but I have found the video capacity of point-and-shoot cameras in general to be quite disappointing and certainly no replacement for a dedicated video camcorder. Nor for a photographic heavyweight like the 5Diii for that matter.

I checked it out but there still doesn't seem to be on shooting videos using a Leica. Its disappointing. Oh well I suppose I'm going to have to be the one to do it then. But by that time they were too late to the market.  It seems like now they are having the same problem, but with the digital video market.
robert_parker Posted May 24, 2013 Share #9  Posted May 24, 2013 Hi Anneke  Hopefully this will help a little  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/263563-d-lux-6-video-samples.html  Scroll down for some samples.  I know forum member Adan has used his D-Lux 6 for a number of video projects (note the post referred to above was posted in the Digital Forum, rather than the product specific one).  It'll be great to see some videos, as this area of camera potential is generally not represented in the forum at the moment....but perhaps soon... This does help a bit. Yea people should try to shoot some videos. Considering it could help Leica understand what they'll need to make it in the video market.  I noticed that on Panasonic's website they have that the Lumix's speakers use Dolby Digital Sound. Yet Leica doesn't state anything about what type of audio technology the D Lux uses. I assume its the same, but still .
robert_parker Posted May 25, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted May 25, 2013 It's probable that the technical people at Leica will know - maybe you should e-mail them
mrware Posted May 29, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted May 29, 2013 I have a friend with the LX7. He really likes the video. Â Personally, my opinion is unless you are really hung up on the the best quality from a non dedicated cinema camera, this or any other small mirrorless camera is the way to go for most folks. Â I think you did well with video.
