mhar Posted May 10, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, has anyone ever found a solution for making time-lapse images with an S2? There are a lot of camera timers/triggers on the market, but as the S2 uses LEMO connections for shutter release input, its not easy to find a working solution. Would appreciate any help, also for DIY solutions.

dritz Posted May 10, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2013 Too bad the intervalometer for the R8/9 doesn't just plug it.
jlehrer Posted May 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2013 We offer custom-made Pocket Wizard trigger cables for the S2, this would allow you to attach a unit like a Pocket Wizard MutliMax which has a built in intervalometer function for time-lapse photography: Leica S2 Pocket Wizard Motor Drive Cable. And there are most likely some other trigger units that work; anything with the standard 3.5mm mic jack port will work with that cable.

This seems like a rather generic time-lapse controller: Amazon.com: Vello ShutterBoss Timer Remote for Canon with Sub-Mini Connection: Camera & Photo Is there any chance it could work with the Pocket Wizard trigger? I don't know much about voltage/signalling for these controllers, is there any form of standard for it?
jlehrer Posted May 15, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 15, 2013 Yes, the Vello unit will work with the S2!
erlingmm Posted May 15, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 15, 2013 Yes, the Vello unit will work with the S2! Wow! How would you connect it? Via the cable you offer?
pico Posted May 15, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Will the cable work with an ioShutter cable? Better yet, will you make an ioShutter cable for the S2? ioShutter is an iPhone app that triggers a number of cameras. It includes a time-lapse feature, of course. (It can also be set to trigger by sound and soon it will even trigger from calendar-set events.) Aside: The Vello ShutterBoss is way overpriced. jlehrer Posted May 15, 2013 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2013 I can have cables made to connect just about anything to the S2's motor drive port that has a 3.5mm headphone-style jack on it. Whether or not it will work depends on the signal it puts out, as long as it's a basic "dumb" trigger signal it will work. The S2's drive port does not have a "half-press" position so it's either "fire" or nothing at all.
pico Posted May 15, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 15, 2013 What can you do for the M9 with its USB port?
erlingmm Posted May 16, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 16, 2013 This is another product that might work, similar to the ioShutter, but with a separate device controlled via Bluetooth: Professional Bluetooth Camera Remote Canon 600D 550D 7D 5D MKIII Nikon D4 D700 D3200 D600 iPhone The compatibility list is quite wide-ranging, but the S2 is not mentioned Again, it may just be a question of getting the right cable, provided the signals are compatible with the S2. I'll bet it works with the S2. For some reason I cannot make anything work with the M9. .
erlingmm Posted June 21, 2013 Share #12 Posted June 21, 2013 I have now ordered this cable: Leica S2 Pocket Wizard Motor Drive Cable and will try it out with ioShutter for the iPhone
erlingmm Posted December 6, 2013 Share #13 Posted December 6, 2013 I have now ordered this cable:Leica S2 Pocket Wizard Motor Drive Cable and will try it out with ioShutter for the iPhone Unfortunately, I does not seem to work. The shutter releases when I insert and pull out the cable, but does not work for timer, time-lapse etc. I have tried it on an iPhone 5 and 5S with ioShutter Pro, on full volume, but it does not trigger the shutter.
