portocar Posted April 25, 2007 Share #44 Posted April 25, 2007 Jaap, or anyone else that has done this... I just got the 28mm adapter, for the 21mm lens, from Zeiss. Can someone tell me where I can get it machined and, or mounted on the lens. Also, what type of paint did you use for the coding: manufacturer, color, etc... thanks
sean_reid Posted April 25, 2007 Share #45 Posted April 25, 2007 Hi Nestor, I can answer the last question. Black and white enamel nail polish (applied with a toothpick) work perfectly as the paints. And if you decide to change the coding, the paint can be removed with nailpolish remover. All of my adapters are painted this way. Cheers, Sean
portocar Posted April 25, 2007 Share #46 Posted April 25, 2007 Sean thanks for the paint answer. Who drilled the coding holes in your adapters?
jaapv Posted April 25, 2007 Author Share #47 Posted April 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked a precision machine shop in my neighbourhood and gave them another, coded lens as a template. I used Humbrol model paint.

arthury Posted May 9, 2007 Share #49 Posted May 9, 2007 Sean, Did you have any luck with finding a machinist in the US to do this? Jaapv, After you slap on the new 28mm mount and coded it, do you still need to press the ViewFrame Selector towards the lens to get it to recognize it or is it perfectly reognized, just like a real Leica-coded lens? I am still looking for a solution here in the west coast US.
jaapv Posted May 9, 2007 Author Share #50 Posted May 9, 2007 The M8 is firmly convinced it is a Leica lens
arthury Posted May 10, 2007 Share #51 Posted May 10, 2007 OK, I just received an email from Bertram indicating how I can purchase it but there 2 wrinkles: If I replace the ring myself after getting it, it will void the warranty of the lens. He claims that after the new ring is mounted, the lens needs to be adjusted, which is what I suspected many months ago. As for [2], I suspect it has to do with focus adjustments. What do you guys think? I know the DoF is so large for this lens, it really does not quite matter but it could be off at f/2.8.

He didn't make that proviso for me and my lens is spot- on. Zeiss tolerances are very tight and up till now they never made problems about changing mounts. Maybe they are shaken by the back-focus threads in this forum If you are worried about voiding the guarantee, Zeiss Germany wil change the mount for you for 60 Euro excluding VAT and shipping. I can e-mail you a copy of my exchange with the company if you wish.
