Is it possible to use strobes with the new M 240 with the R adapter attached? Since the viewfinder attaches onto the hot shoe it doesn't appear that it is possible to attach a strobe via PC connection. I would like to use my R lenses but need to be able to use strobes with either a sync cord or wireless trigger. Thanks for any replies in advance.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

You will need the MULTIFUNCTIONAL HANDGRIP M (order #.14495) and the SCA ADAPTER SET FOR MULTIFUNCTIONAL HANDGRIP M(order #.14498).

as you can see in the M-System Catalog

Ther are some pictures of both accessories here :

It appears that in order to change camera batteries and cards you have to remove the SCA adapter. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the great responses. Unfortunately live view is not an option. I shoot professionally and I need an SLR or EVIL. Last year I switched to Nikon and my DMR has become my back-up since age and a few failures have left me with a lack of trust. All the bells, whistles, buttons, and auto focus lenses drive me crazy on the Nikon. I want an SLR type camera that does what I want and is intuitive to use. Unfortunately I don't think it exists in today's world.

No, you will have to remove the handgrip but you can let the SCA Adapter attached on it.

Understandable.

At some point I'll be purchasing a preowned 180 R lens for my M, and will have the same issues. It's unfortunate that Leica chose to use the hot-shoe as the only conduit for so many of the ancillary features designed into the new M.

I do have the grip on backorder and when it comes in, I plan to trigger an off camera flash using the studio-strobe PC connection on the grip, with a plain-old-auto-thyristor flash unit. Remember those dinosaurs :) ? It's kind of funny that I go into my local camera store and find a small-form-factor Auto flash unit with a bounce head for $10! A $10 flash sitting on top of $13,000 of equipment and it functions more accurately and quicker than any current technology. When I use TTL flash on a Leica, I don't have time to dig into menu's to compensate my flash exposures. With "auto" you just move the aperture ring, and I've found 90% of my auto flash exposures are accurate; and if off, only 1/2 stop either way; with a $10 pre-owned flash mind you!

I use a Demb flash bracket which is extremely diminutive, in keeping with the form factor of the small M, and smaller flash.

I'm a loyal Leica user, but if they make something that doesn't work, I could care less if I have to go after-market to find a pro solution to a problem.
