I have just noticed that one of these lenses has become available at Leica Camera Beriln, for €4000. Given its rarity, I thought I would post the tip here. I haven't tried it, but held it and examined it, and it looks to be in great, if not perfect, condition.

I've gone through all material on his site and never seen him directly compare the 28-90 to the 35-70/2.8.

No, he doesn't, but of course you can read both reviews and draw your own conclusions.

Allen Oser (osera) made comparisons between the two zooms and I also did some testing between the two zooms plus 35 lux, 50 lux (E60), and 80 lux. Compared to the 28-90, the 35-70 is sharper at 35, 50, and 70 mm, although the 28-90 comes really close at 70mm.The colors are more faithful in the 35-70 than with the 28-90. The 28-90 has more saturated colors. (The color comparisons were made by using the same manual white balance for all the lenses, using the 50 lux as the standard.) There is slightly less distortion in the 35-70. The 35-70 also has less CA. In short, the 35-70 wins in every category except in the focal range and portability, although the 35-70 is not a behemoth either. It is about the size of Canon 24-70L.

Thanks a lot for the quick roundup, Peter. When stopped down to f/4.5, f/5.6 ... are those differences still visible? I'm suspecting the more saturated colors from the 28-90 is due to its relative higher contrast.

If you could post some extreme crops for demonstration, that would be great!
