Model name for Leica M in Lightroom

Because I use a handful of cameras I like to incorporate the camera in the name when I rename files for filing away for easy reference. In Lightroom when I go to Rename Photo and edit the file name template by using the "Model" field from the metadata I get a long "LEICA M (Typ 240)" and I would prefer something shorter like "M240". Short of either typing that when I edit the custom name template or editing EXIF data, is there a way in Lightroom to extract a shorter version of the model name?

Typing the name would be simple but I would have to remember to change it for each camera or when I scan in transparencies.

Do you want to change it in exif or in the file name ? If the latter, you can activate "ignore camera-generated filenames" in the general preferences and define the names on import.

You could also look at "Renaming Files" on the Import screen. You can set it up to automatically rename files as you import them to Lightroom.

I have Lightroom set up to open as soon as I connect a camera or card reader. I choose the relevant template for the camera used. I also have it configured to add the copyright info to the file exiff data on import.

My file naming templates are set up to create the file name with: DATE-CAMERA-CAMERAFILENAME. But, there are lots of fields to choose from and also a custom text field where you can type in free text before importing.

Example: 2013-04-13-mm-Lxxxxxxx
