smb Posted April 10, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted April 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased a Leica IIIf red dial self timer, a lovely camera. I noticed an unusual quirk in its construction. On both sides of the camera there are metal pins to attach the bottom plate. When I looked up photographs of this camera in my books and on the internet I noticed this to be on all the models and even other models. Question: What is the purposed of two pins on either side of the bottom of the camera to attach the bottom plate when only one is needed?

earleygallery Posted April 10, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted April 10, 2013 Only one is for the bottom plate of course. The other was for a bracket mounted flash unit made at the time.

doubice Posted April 10, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted April 10, 2013 Actually, not just the flash bracket - the locating pin was also used for the Focoslide sliding focusing stage - FULDY, OOZAB, ROOAI (for Reprovit) and others. The pin also served as an additional anchoring point for the Benser lens plate. Â Cheers, Â Jan
