blueweed Posted April 24, 2013 Share #81 Posted April 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) having an M and my first leica for 3 weeks, I am not really sure the analogy to a porsche holds, imo I did put it closer to driving a natural asphirated car vs turbo/supercharged cars that it, ie Rangefinder experience ala natural asphirated that a canikon/turbo supercharged car cannot emulate that 'sound' that feeling of excitement(?). However the car could be clunky and not most fuel efficient which leads me to compare closer to a maserati, maybe. Only 2 models to talk of(4door and GT), not the most exciting interior and still need a key to start the car. Marketing direction is also kinda slow/hazy at times, pipeline roughly every 5years on 2 models. however, a maser's na engine is pure aural pleasure, you hence forgive that it is not keyless etc. Porche on the other hand has very clear marketing direction, global reach, amazing high tech production line with little tolerance of error and fuss free/drivable...on that note the drivability of a 'leica' is not for all, but almost anyone can hop into a 997 and sprun off into the sunset. I feel if anything, Leica could say they would like to be Porsche someday, but I think they are far from being a 'Porsche' now....my thoughts p/s- and indeed I didnt not notice and like that much of the 'click/thud' from my D4 and Rx1(no sound) as compared to 'clicking' the M...click click click, what a great noise!
