I recently purchsed a 1971 MDa, serial nr. 1285 812.

According to this list:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/MDa

it is the mot version?

I has a normal base plate - how can I tell??

By taking off the thin protective base cover under the base plate with the film diagram?

An MDa Mot would have a standard base plate. It had to be removed when the ELNY motor drive was attached. The best way to find out is to check the take-up spool to see if it has been modified to accept the motor. Also, the ELNY motor drive needed electrical connections between the body and itself - by removing the film diagram plate you can find out if those connections are present.

Best,

Jan

It appears from the pictures linked to at Aperture, that the connectors are visible without removing the diagram, of course removing it would also remove all doubt, but based on the pictures it seems unlikely they will be there.

That is what my intention was - to remove all doubt. The film diagram plate could have been easily replaced in the past, hiding the contacts from view.

Cheers,

Jan

You can also look at the film take-up spool. It is obviously different because the film is wound forward on it rather than through a coupling approximately under the speed dial (at the bottom).

Hello Augost,

Welcome to the Forum,

The WIKI at the top of this page says your camera is one of a batch of 1200 MDa's some of which are motorized & some of which are not.

Some may be marked MDa MOT & some may only have MDa followed by the serial number.

The opening in the plate is in the correct place.

Is it possible to see another photo showing the entire bottom of the camera body?

Best Regards,

Michael
