alexc Posted March 28, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received my M 240 today, I am in Toronto. Everything is in order and so far no problems except one. Do no see focus peaking. In the menu it is on. I am using Focus Aid X5 or X10, however do not see any red lines. Looked through the manual, seems like I am not missing anything.

algrove Posted March 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 28, 2013 Just received my M 240 today, I am in Toronto. Everything is in order and so far no problems except one. Do no see focus peaking. In the menu it is on. I am using Focus Aid X5 or X10, however do not see any red lines. Looked through the manual, seems like I am not missing anything. Read some of the other threads. We have all had similar problems. Remember to activate it you MUST move the focus ring. And depending on your lens it is very easy to go right past it without seeing the red in focus lines. They are very faint. Focus Aid=automatic Focus Peaking=on Hit the #3 button to get it started and then turn your focus ring. Please report back. StephenPatterson Posted March 29, 2013 Share #8 Posted March 29, 2013 i do exactly how you describe and focus on high contrast area. no result It's very subtle but you should be able to see some focus peaking, especially at 5x and 10x. Recheck menu settings to make sure focus peaking is ON and try a different subject. Newspapers work well.
alexc Posted March 29, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted March 29, 2013 No, normal price, i just placed a deposit in September. I was first on the list. Jeff is a very straightforward and descent person and is always a pleasure to deal with.

It looks to me a: something is wrong with the camera b: it is so subtle that I don't see it. If it is that subtle I don't think it is very practical. I never had any issues with focusing with any lens via OVF including Noctilux. I can manage with no focus peaking. Next week I will bring the camera to my dealer and we will try to figure it out. Will report.
algrove Posted March 29, 2013 Share #11 Posted March 29, 2013 alexc-Perhaps you are moving the focus ring too fast. Set yourself up with as Stephen mentions a newspaper in front of you say 6 feet away and then set your lens to 6 feet. Now do follow the process below. Assuming you have all the settings OK as noted above, Hit #3 (in manual) button on front of camera-the top button and then move your focus ring. On the LCD you will see in top right corner the wheel with the magnification level. It starts where you left off so if it has never been used then it starts at magnification of 1x.The areas showing what is in focus are very faint and take some getting used to. Remember without the EVF look on the LCD. Oh, just happen to think did you first hit the LV button top left of LCD? Are you using the EVF? If you have a black LCD then you must look through the EVF and if you hit the EVF button again it will then activate the LCD. Same view on both. mjh Posted March 29, 2013 Share #12 Posted March 29, 2013 If it is that subtle I don't think it is very practical. It isn’t that subtle – the implementation of focus peaking that Fuji has chosen for their new models is too subtle for my liking, but not Leica’s. Unless maybe your subject is predominantly red so the red contours created by focus peaking wouldn’t be that obvious. But if there is sufficient contrast then those red lines or spots should be visible; otherwise focus peaking must be turned off or doesn’t work. Although I couldn’t think of a reason why it would not be working if the camera was fully functional in every other respect.

sanyasi Posted March 29, 2013 Share #18 Posted March 29, 2013 My new M arrived today--it's black, I paid the list price, and I got on the list right after announcement. As for focus peaking, I found that it was easier to see it when the object in focus was farther away than relatively close and when the object had clearly defined lines. sanyasi Posted March 30, 2013 Share #20 Posted March 30, 2013 90mm APO summicron. I was working my way through the menu so I really was just shooting in my living room--lamps, window blinds, etc. Aperture hovered around 2, with two or three stop variations.
