carstenw Posted April 1, 2007 Share #21 Posted April 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is quite possible that you can get the shutter repaired under warranty. However, if you continue to use the camera and the sensor breaks and destroys something else, that is negligence on your part, and I doubt that Leica would pay for anything except the shutter, and some labour. Now that you have carefully documented the problem in this forum, they certainly don't even need to try to prove the negligence. I third the suggestion to send it in now and stop shooting. Advertisement Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Hi carstenw, Take a look here M8 Shutter damage. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted April 1, 2007 Share #22 Posted April 1, 2007 I agree with the others about not continuing to use the camera. Repair would be covered by the warranty in the UK regardless of the cause. I don't know what the situation is in the the States.
ho_co Posted April 1, 2007 Share #23 Posted April 1, 2007 Remember also, there may be an alien presence trapped between the shutter and the sensor and trying to get out. Leica has the equipment to deal with those spirits, but who knows what would happen if one got loose inside your camera unprotected? Send it for repair. earleygallery Posted April 1, 2007 Share #24 Posted April 1, 2007 STOP! Why did you continue using the camera after spotting the fault anyway? Why not drop it in sea water as well to see what effect that will have! Seriously, don't touch it anymore, pack it up and send it for repair.
gesper Posted April 1, 2007 Author Share #25 Posted April 1, 2007 Yes, it is time for another holiday in Solms. Amazing how quickly this seems to have developed. Something for everyone to watch out for.
gesper Posted April 1, 2007 Author Share #26 Posted April 1, 2007 Why did you continue using the camera after spotting the fault anyway? Only becasue I thought it must have been there since it returned from Solms. I thought it might be a static situation where the damage had been done, but it wasn't going to get worse. It is only luck that I found it. If I had shot, say, 300 frames without changing lenses, which is certainly reasonable, it probably would have blown up by itself. Anyway, I have stopped shooting, and it is back to Leica.
