The spring is real easy to get off the filter mount, you could also use a plastic toothpick to just lift the end of the spring and pull it out from the grove. I actually have the first prototype of this holder

Is the B+W glass just as easy to remove?
gwelland Posted September 19, 2007 Share #143 Posted September 19, 2007 I'm buying a B+W filter to protect the lens seeing that it's going to take forever for my Leica filter to arrive. Is the B+W glass just as easy to remove? With the correct tool - yes, very easy. Without the correct tool - tough. Get yourself one of these and it's really simple. Alternatively, any camera shop can unscrew the B+W retaining ring for you.
marknorton Posted September 19, 2007 Share #144 Posted September 19, 2007 I would say one of "these" is required to install the filter glass in John's filter adapter, so worth getting and hardly expensive.

gwelland Posted September 19, 2007 Share #146 Posted September 19, 2007 So I take it that applying pressure to the glass and twisting will unscrew the glass from the mount? No. The retaining ring needs to be unscrewed and the rubber tool applies a constant pressure on the inner RING, not the glass, so that you can unscrew it. As Mark mentioned, you'll also find this useful to re-assemble the WATE filter assembly and tighten the retaining ring. It's well worth getting as it makes life a LOT easier using the correct tool. marknorton Posted September 19, 2007 Share #148 Posted September 19, 2007 It's worth "working" (screwing and unscrewing) the retaining ring a few times before you put the glass in to make it easier when the glass is in. You also do not have to tighten the ring beyond "finger tight", you're not attaching the wheels to a 747 here...
