Looking for Round Slide Trays

I have the Leica Pradovit RT-m slide projector and I'm looking for some extra round slide trays.

 

In short, is there a good source for the round trays (Leica or Kodak) that have the plastic dust covers?

 

 

 

Now for the full story;

 

 

I currently have two round slide trays. They are of the Leica brand for 80 slides each. Both include plastic dust covers.

 

Since I assume the Leica and Kodak round slide trays are no longer being manufactured, I've had to look elsewhere.

 

 

I see a lot of used Kodak Carousel trays. Some with and without plastic dust covers. Of the Kodak brand that come with the protective dust cover, that has a model number of S-AV2000 and holds 80 slides.

 

Did Kodak ever make a round tray that holds 140 slides that also have the protective dust cover?

 

 

And of course, there's new ones I could get Presentation & Storage Slide Projectors & Lenses | Freestyle Photographic Supplies

 

(Those are of some neat colors!) But I don't know anything about Arista. (However they do come with the plastic dust covers.)

 

 

 

Also, I see round trays that hold different amounts of slides such as 100, 120 etc. Am I to assume they would not work with my Pradovit RT-m slide projector?

I stick with the 80 trays myself. I have not tried a 140 on my RT. Seeing that you're in Scottsdale, you might try Ritz Collectibles for used trays. Or write to me privately, as I have more of those than I need!

I wonder if they moved, sold the business or are no longer in business? I tried Collectible Cameras and it now goes to Collectible Cameras in Scottsdale? I've actually been there a couple times. I see they do have some, but not the ones with the clear plastic dust covers.

Has anyone ever tried the round trays with the count of 140? Have any ever gotten stuck? I only use the plastic mounts that come with the development process.

IIRC the 140- slide trays were intended for the Kodak cardboard slide mounts and weren't suitable for the thicker plastic mounts, especially the glazed ones. ButI guess they'd be okay with the thin plastic mounts most labs use now.

Talking about trays, I ordered three new ones (holds 80 slides with the hard plastic tops.) The brand is called Arista and they do work with the Leica projector however I am not happy with them.

 

Out of the three I ordered, one had the clear plastic cracked along with the metal being bent to the point that the tray was locked up. Also, there was a small black broken plastic piece loose in the box. (I sent it back)

 

Another one had it's metal bent (the round thin metal under the plastic slide holders) but it does work. I've done my best to get the bend out of it.

 

The last one was the only one that looks and operates probably like it did when it was manufactured. But the issues don't stop there.

 

With this brand (and in all situations,) the boxes they come in are way too tight. Just looking at the boxes on the outside I can see the whole imprint of the round tray on the top and bottom. On the inside of the box the fit is so tight, that the "teeth" of the bottom of the reel is imprinted inside the box. When putting the round tray back inside the box, the tray pushes against the bottom tongue flap preventing the tray to fully go into the box. The solution is to open the bottom of the box, put in the tray fully centered into the box; then close the bottom and top of the box. Then, because the box is so tight, it cannot sit level while vertically storing the box. They lean to the left.

 

I noticed on the Kodak and Leica round tray boxes, the bottom of the box has a totally different design to prevent the problems associated to what I just talked about. Only the top has the folding tongue flap. Plus the box fit is "snug" not tight.

 

The other difference between the Leica (and presumingly the Kodak brand) of round trays is with how the clear plastic top locks into place. In my experience, the Leica plastic lid clicks once (and stops) while locking it. The Arista brand clicks three times! Another words, it will click once but does not fully stop till after two more clicks. Only after the 3rd click does the tray truly feel like it's locked tight.

 

As you can imagine, I'm really unhappy about the Arista round trays!

 

I'm currently hunting down some of the round Kodak trays with the model number of S-AV2000 (80 Slides) I don't think they ever made the 140 version with the plastic clear top. Anyway, there seems to be one every now and then cropping up on Ebay. Though most of them from overseas. (I don't know why that is.) And most of the ones from overseas will not ship to the US. So far, I have found one guy from overseas who I was able to purchased two. It will be interesting to see what condition they arrive in.

 

I think over time if I keep up with what's being sold on Ebay or wherever, I'll get enough.
