Saad Posted March 11, 2013 Share #1  Posted March 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Everyone was so kind in my thread entitled "My New Noctilux f0.95, to keep or not to keep" that I decided to post some pictures taken on 28 Feb, a few days before receiving my Noctilux f0.95. This was to see whether the differences were big enough to justify purchasing the new Noctilux.  It is tough, the 2 are very different. I hope you like the following examples.  All photos taken with the Sony NEX 6, and at f1. Welcome, dear visitor! tmldds Posted March 11, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted March 11, 2013 Magical, Saad. Keep it since it does have a different character and less modern than the latest Nocti.
01af Posted March 11, 2013 Share #3  Posted March 11, 2013 Didn't you just say you've paid the bill for the Noct Asph? Are you suffering from buyer's remorse now? Please don't! Sure—paying over 11,000 bucks for a lens does hurt ... but the pain will vanish quickly, and the joy will stay.  The old Noctilux-M 50 mm 1:1 is pretty good ... but the Noctilux-M 50 mm 1:0.95 Asph clearly is better, in several regards. One of the most important points, from a user's point of view, is aperture-related focus shift. The 50/1 suffers from this pretty badly while in the 50/0.95 Asph it's nearly absent. Hence, MUCH easier to use. And sharper, too. And better bokeh at full aperture near the frame's borders due to somewhat less field curvature and less vignetting.  Many will say, but the 50/1 has more character. No, it hasn't. It has a slightly different character. Which to prefer is a matter of taste; personally, I prefer the 50/0.95 Asph's.
Saad Posted March 11, 2013 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 11, 2013 01af I agree with you a lot I would just add that the mood the Noctilux f1 generates is a little moodier. Whatever that means. Buyers remorse? You just made me aware of it. Â Saad
LikeMyLeica Posted March 11, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted March 11, 2013 Dear Saad, Â Both sets of pictures are compelling - what an exquisite dilemma! Keep photographing, with both. Â Thanks, Â Nick
jedi996sps Posted March 11, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted March 11, 2013 Lovely images. The 1st and last are my favourites. I also have the V2 f1 noctilux as well as the 1.4 50mm asph summilux and do use both depending on the 'look' that i am after. So, if you also kept both, i personally would not question why :-)
rirakuma Posted March 12, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted March 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that unless you are financially comfortable to keep both, you should sell one of them. They're both beautiful and like many said there are subtle difference in rendering but they're also very expensive. I've been through period where I was obsessed with a lens and in hindsight I should have sold or never bought it in the first place. If you are a wealthy man then enjoy both your noctis
sydkugelmass Posted March 12, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted March 12, 2013 Saad, fabulous pics. Â I bought recently a Noct f1. I use it with full satisfaction. The 0,95 is a clearly superior lens, both technically and as it concerns useability. My personal point of view could suggest a 'take both' policy. If I were forced, instead, to choose in a mutually exclusive way, (especially already owning the 0,95 too), I'd take this last one with me forever. But... a different choice is perfectly understandable... Â Best Regards. Â M.
Saad Posted March 12, 2013 Author Share #9 Â Posted March 12, 2013 Thank you M I would also think that to keep both is a better option.
Indina Posted March 12, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted March 12, 2013 I prefer the look of these photos from those of the newer lens. Â Might be a coincidence, since they're different photos.
