I have a Leica II, which began its life as a Leica I in 1931. As the image below shows, it lacks the shutter release guard. I wish to add an original one, if possible.

DAG Camera sells a shutter release guard which is said to be for cameras up to the Leica IIIa, which, since it is chrome, would fit my camera very well.

Can someone confirm that this is the kind that would have been on the camera way back when?

Perhaps there are other sources for such spare parts, too (I have checked ebay without luck).

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Hope it is ok to bring back this thread. I am currently considering a very similar camera that misses the shutter collar.  The rest seems really good and if it was not for this missing piece, I’d proceed straight away.

in terms of usability, does the missing collar matter? Does it prevent the shutter from going too deep?

Many thanks 🙏

@Aryelyou can use the camera without the collar, of course.

the collar is there for esthetic "only" and has no functional role.

Collars are lost because the shutter release cable of those days was made to be screwed outside, not inside ...

you can see with key word FINOT (name of the cable release)
