Guest Walt Posted March 28, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used my second M8 body (31069xx) this afternoon and all was fine. On using it this evening there is a fine, light line running vertically (vertically across the horizontal frame) that looks like one pixel wide. It shows up on darker areas only and is visible in preview, Photoshop and a print. It is just left of center. A dead row of pixels? Back to Solms or am I missing something here? Anything I should try to confirm or correct this? Walt

ho_co Posted March 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 28, 2007 Jpg and RAW? Exactly the same location all frames? What Raw processor? Have you tried another Raw processor and got the same results?
Guest Walt Posted March 28, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 28, 2007 Howard- I'm using only DNGs and ACR, but this is visible on the LCD preview screen on the camera before any downloading or processing.
scott kirkpatrick Posted March 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 28, 2007 Sounds like a dead column, but I didn't think that any electronic connections on a CCD are made vertically (the data bits come out horizontally to both sides of the chip). Try a firmware reload, just in case there is something strange happening in software. And to confirm that it is the sensor, shoot a lens cap (black field) on manual and inspect carefully for pixels that stay on. (Both before and after the firmware refresh.) good luck. Solms can take a long time if this is a possible mode of product failure that they will need to discuss with the sensor maker. And I haven't heard this complaint before, but there was a light line in the noise background, several pixels wide, running vertically just to the right of center at about .55 to .6 of the width of the frame. This went away with a firmware change in release 1.092. scott
Guest Walt Posted March 28, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2007 Scott-- The line (which I confirm as one pixel width as viewed in Photoshop) is visible on the dark shot, both before and after a firmware update. It runs from the very top to the very bottom of the frame. It is not white, but light and of the same color as the surrounding columns of pixels. So, it doesn't look like a "dead" row exactly, but it is clearly visible in darker areas of the image, even in a print. Ugh! Walt
Guest Walt Posted March 28, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2007 A further update-- the visibility of the line is dependent on ISO speed. It is hardly visible at 160 and becomes increasingly visible with increased ISO. At 320 it is easily visible and from there on it gets progressively more prominent--looks red at 1250, multicolored at 2500. For what that's worth.. POKO Posted March 28, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Walt, I had he same problem with my second defective M8 body. It was sent back to NJ and they sent me a replacement body. The serial number on that body was 3106390. Good luck, Per
scott kirkpatrick Posted March 28, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2007 Sound like it is time to trade in the 2nd body for a 3rd. scott
Guest Walt Posted March 28, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 28, 2007 Thanks Per and Scott-- I've sent the body back to NJ and requested a replacement. It's three weeks old and I don't think I'd like to sit on a two-month round trip to Germany. Per, does my description exactly match yours (position in the frame, etc.)? I think this would be helpful. Thanks guys, Walt
POKO Posted March 29, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 29, 2007 Hi Walt, I checked to see if I still had some of the files from the camera, but I am sorry to say that I don't. The stripe was left of center, and I think it ran from top to bottom but I don't remember if it ended before it got to the edge of the frame. Good luck, they replaced mine no questions asked and checked the 3rd camera before it was sent out - this one has been working perfectly. Per
