There had been a small amount of comment a couple of months back regarding the C Lux 1 /FZ01for use underwater (SCUBA). Here's my outfit, which is remarkably small and light, and fairly reasonable in cost. If anyone wants details (separate pieces, source, service of source) let me know. I'll first use it in the fall in Papua New Guinea.

Hi Stuart,

Looks cool.

Is there anyway to shoot this set up by remote control from say a distance of 50 feet?

I have an underwater picture in mind that I can only take remotely.

I would really appreciate help on this.

Best,

Mitchell

Hi Stuart

It looks like Panasonic went the extra yard with the enclosure. 40m depth that is really deep for scuba diving if I am not mistaken. They also have a housing for the TZ1.

If you are not going until the fall you may be able to get the FZ07 which lists Underwater as a scene mode. The FZ50 has a 3" LCD which looks like it will throw off the contacts in the housing.

Panasonic USA has the housings listed as pre order on the online store.

Mitchell - I am unaware of any way to remotely trigger this rig. Since all existing controls have watertight buttons, and the enclosure fits pretty snugly, I suspect the only hope is a jerry-rigged motorized or relay activated plunger to attach to the shutter button.

Gepetto - 40 meters is just about two meters shy of the deepest a sport diver should ever go. I've only been below 40 meters twice in over 200 dives, so this should be good for 99% of my underwater shots, especially since the close-up focus is very good (about 1:2.5). The underwater scene mode is also in the FX01. All that does is change the color balance to correct for the loss of longer wavelengths of visible light at anything more than two or three meters of water between you and the subject. I bought the camera locally, and the entire balance of the rig through the Internet from a very high-service organization in Taiwan.

Thanks Stuart

I mixed up the Panasonic names. I meant to say you could get the FX07 that replaces the FX01. FX07 will migrate to the underwater housing just in time for your fall excursion. This way Barbara will not be so nervous sending her C-Lux 1 under the sea. :D

I recommended the FX01 to a friend who is also an avid scuba diver. Until you mentioned the FX01 had an underwater scene mode and forth coming housing on the old forum I did not realize this. My friend will be even more pleased with the FX01 once I tell him.

Looking forward to your underwater adventure.
